We are reporting monochorionic, diamniotic twin premature infants born at 25 weeks and 6 days gestation with riboflavin (vitamin B2) and biotin (vitamin B7) deficiency, while on prolonged total parenteral nutrition (TPN) during vitamin shortage. They presented initially with skin rash, lactic acidosis, and thrombocytopenia. A retrospective study of 67 human breast carcinomas of various types and grades was conducted using the avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex (ABC) to localize casein, lactalbumin, and GCDFP 70 on paraffin sections. BACKGROUND: Biotin-thiamine-responsive basal ganglia disease (BTBGD) is a rare autosomal recessive neurometabolic disorder that is caused by biallelic pathogenic SLC19A3 variants and is characterized by subacute encephalopathy associated with confusion, convulsions, dysphagia, dysarthria, or other neurological manifestations.
METHODS: A retrospective review of the data registry in Kuwait Medical Genetics Center for all cases diagnosed clinically and radiographically and confirmed genetically with BTBGD.
