Laparoscopy-assisted colon resection for mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma in the cecum.

Colonic MALToma (mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma) has not been well investigated compared to stomach MALToma which is related to Helicobacter pylori infection. We report the uncommon case of MALToma in the cecum initially identified as submucosal tumor, successfully treated by laparoscopy-assisted resection with systemic lymphadectomy. As the metastatic ability and sensitivity against chemotherapy of colonic MALToma is not known, temporally, this treatment seems to be the best choice.

A rare case of dual obstruction of the colon.

The commonest cause of large bowel obstruction is colorectal malignancy. Volvulus of the colon is a rare cause and caecal volvulus accounts for less than 1% of all cases of intestinal obstruction. Reports of concurrent occurrence of obstructing lesions of the right and left colon are rare and anecdotal. We report a case of Caecal volvulus and carcinoma of the rectosigmoid in a 70-year-old lady.

Non occlusive ileocaecocolic intussusception caused by caecum cancer--case report.

A case of ileocaecocolic intussusception caused by a caecum carcinoma is presented. The authors stress the peculiarity of clinical manifestation, without intestinal obstruction despite the presence of a big abdominal mass involving vessels and bowel, revealed by CT scanning and angiography. Endoscopy was not able to identify the nature of the lesion. Laparotomy performed with the idea to find a mesenchymal neoplasia, permitted to achieve the diagnosis.

[A carcinoma of the cecum arising from the orifice of the appendix: a case report].

Reported is the case of a 50-year-old man who was admitted to hospital because of an abdominal pain. A barium enema revealed the shade of a distended, unfilled appendix that had reversed itself on the cecum and the ascending colon, the latter showing compression from the exterior. Further, a colonoscopic examination uncovered a flat, nodular tumor of the cecum that had elevated at the orifice of the vermiform appendix, and 67Ga scintigraphy indicated the uptake at the lower right abdomen. A resected specimen of the tumor showed proliferation in the cecal mucosa at the orifice of the appendix,

Detection of cecal adenocarcinoma by Tc-99m pertechnetate scintigram.

A 23-year-old male presented with occult gastrointestinal bleeding and iron deficiency anemia. A Tc-99m pertechnetate abdominal scan was positive and surgery revealed an adenocarcinoma of the cecum. No Meckel's diverticulum was identified. This is the first reported association of an abnormal Tc-99m pertechnetate scan in adenocarcinoma. Carcinoma of the right colon should be considered in any patient with a positive pertechnetate scan for Meckel's diverticulum and suggestive clinical features.

Delayed antemortem diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of the cecum presenting as lower extremity gas gangrene.

The rare entity of nontraumatic metastatic gas gangrene is commonly associated with occult gastrointestinal malignancies. Normally the patient's course is fulminant, with rapid demise prior to ascertaining the correct etiology at autopsy. An unusual case is presented in that 65 days following hip disarticulation for gas gangrene the diagnosis of colonic cancer was appropriately suspected and then proven.

Early gastric neoplasms are significant risk factor for colorectal adenoma: A prospective case-control study.

Although gastric cancer patients have a high incidence and risk of colorectal cancer, evidence is lacking regarding whether early gastric neoplasms (EGNs), such as gastric adenomas and early gastric cancer, are risk factors for colorectal adenoma. This study aimed to investigate the incidence of colorectal adenomas in patients with EGN. This prospective study was conducted between January 2015 and December 2016. Of the 307 patients who underwent gastric endoscopic submucosal dissection for EGN, 110 patients were enrolled in the EGN group, and 110 age- and sex-matched healthy persons from the s

Genetic, immunohistochemical, and clinical features of medullary carcinoma of the pancreas: A newly described and characterized entity.

Medullary carcinomas of the pancreas are a recently described, histologically distinct subset of poorly differentiated adenocarcinomas that may have a unique pathogenesis and clinical course. To further evaluate these neoplasms, we studied genetic, pathological, and clinical features of 13 newly identified medullary carcinomas of the pancreas. Nine (69%) of these had wild-type K-ras genes, and one had microsatellite instability (MSI). This MSI medullary carcinoma, along with three previously reported MSI medullary carcinomas, were examined immunohistochemically for Mlh1 and Msh2 expression, an

Colonic histoplasmosis presenting as colon cancer in the nonimmunocompromised patient: report of a case and review of the literature.

Histoplasma capsulatum is an important pathogen that is the most commonly diagnosed endemic mycosis in the gastrointestinal tract of immunocompromised hosts. Failure to recognize and treat disseminated histoplasmosis in AIDS patients invariably leads to death. Gastrointestinal manifestations frequently involve the terminal ileum and cecum, and depending on the layer of bowel wall involved present as bleeding, obstruction, perforation, or peritonitis. Because they can be variable in appearance, they may be mistaken for Crohn's disease or malignant tumors. Four distinct pathologic patterns of GI
