Transvitreal chorioretinal biopsy was performed in nine Dutch rabbits by introducing a biopsy instrument through a small eye wall incision, passing the instrument across the eye through the vitreous to the biopsy site, and by trephinating and removing from the eye a 1.6-mm diameter specimen of the posterior eye wall. Sudden and extensive growth of intraocular tumors like retinoblastoma and choroidal melanoma may result in the clinical presentation of sterile or aseptic orbital cellulitis. In such masquerading situations, ocular and orbital imaging plays a significant role. The treatment with steroids may provide a rapid recovery from the aggressive orbital inflammation. However, a high index of suspicion is vital for apt diagnosis and timely management.

PURPOSE: Retinal hemangioblastomas (RHs) are rare benign vascular tumors that present mostly as manifestations of Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) syndrome. In contrast to other VHL syndrome-associated tumors, only a handful of molecular studies have been published on RHs. It remains unclear whether VHL alterations alone drive RH tumorigenesis.

11 years after removal of a kidney because of hypernephroma a choroidal metastasis of this tumor grew. Clinically an inflammatory process had been suspected, thus leading to late correct diagnosis. The clinical and histological findings are presented. In the overall statistic of ocular metastasis seen in the university-eye-hospital in Hamburg, hypernephromas hold the 3rd place in the rank-list of the most common primary tumors. Thus, in case of a suspected ocular metastasis, in differential diagnosis a hypernephroma should be excluded.

Of 1146 caprine necropsy or biopsy specimens submitted from 1987 through 2011 to the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Oregon State University, 100 goats (8.7%) had 102 tumors. Detailed records were available for 89 cases. Fifty-five goats were female, 17 were castrated males, and 12 were intact males. Breeds included 21 Nubian, 16 Pygmy, 10 Pygora, 8 Alpine, 4 Angora, 4 Saanen, 2 Toggenburg, and 9 crossbred goats. The patient is a 57-year-old woman with a history of Hodgkin's lymphoma in remission. A routine analysis found hepatic profile alterations, and a full liver function test showed SOLs in a non-cirrhotic liver. An anatomopathological study revealed metastatic melanoma.
