Application of a Quantitative POCT-FIT Based on Near-Infrared Fluorescence Immunochromatography in Population-Based Colorectal Cancer Screening: A Comparative Evaluation with a Centralized Testing System.

Background/Objectives: Fecal occult blood testing (FOBT) is a cornerstone of colorectal cancer (CRC) screening. The current quantitative FOBTs, however, were centralized, which limited their accessibility in preliminary screening implemented by community health. This study aimed to establish a rapid, highly sensitive quantitative FOB-detection method based on near-infrared fluorescence immunochromatography, hereinafter referred to as point-of-care fecal immunochemical testing (POCT-FIT), and to evaluate its performance against a centralized testing system in population-based CRC screening. Home hospitalization in the spectrum of community geriatric care.

The Home Hospitalization Programme was initiated in Jerusalem in 1991 to provide intensive medical care at home in order to prevent or shorten hospitalizations. The programme was based upon regular home visits by physicians, and nursing assessment to determine the need for regular nursing care. Primary-care physicians and nurses were renumerated by a global monthly fee, and were on 24-h call in addition to their periodic visits. Patients were recruited by senior geriatric physicians from acute hospital wards, as well as from the community, at the family doctor's request. Ancillary services ava

Facilitators to cervical cancer screening in a minority, urban, underserved population.

OBJECTIVES: Cervical cancer has markedly declined due to widespread use of screening, but Hispanic women continue to bear a disproportionate amount of the cervical cancer burden due to under-screening. Previous studies have explored barriers to screening but have failed to identify targetable facilitators in this group. We aimed to assess facilitators to cervical cancer screening among a predominantly urban, Hispanic population who presented to a no-cost, community-based clinic. METHODS: Patients completed demographic and health information, a validated social determinants of health (SDOH) sc

Integrating Correctional and Community Health Care: An Innovative Approach for Clinical Learning in a Baccalaureate Nursing Program.

PROBLEM: With an evolving focus on primary, community-based, and patient-centered care rather than acute, hospital-centric, disease-focused care, and recognition of the importance of coordinating care and managing transitions across providers and settings of care, registered nurses need to be prepared from a different and broader knowledge base and skills set. A culture change among nurse educators and administrators and in nursing education is needed to prepare competent registered nurses capable of practicing from a health promotion, disease prevention, community- and population-focused cons

Characteristics associated with seasonal influenza vaccination of preschool children--Oregon, 2006-2008.

Starting with the 2010-11 influenza season, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended that all children aged ≥6 months be vaccinated against influenza annually, and that previously unvaccinated children aged ≤8 years be given 2 doses of vaccine. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) also recommends influenza vaccinations for this population. Throughout influenza seasons, preschool children often have higher rates of influenza-related hospitalization than any other age group except older adults. To estimate influenza vaccination coverage and identify sociodemographi

Factors influencing patient selection of orthopaedic surgeons for total hip (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

INTRODUCTION: The importance of identifying how patients choose their healthcare providers has grown with the prevalence of consumer-centric health insurance plans. There is currently a lack of studies exploring the factors associated with how patients select their hip and knee joint arthroplasty surgeons. The purpose of this study was to determine how patients find their arthroplasty providers and the relative importance of various arthroplasty surgeon characteristics. METHODS: An electronic mail survey was sent to 3522 patients who had visited our institution for an arthroplasty surgeon off

Effect of Pap-smear and sociodemographic factors on cervical cancer risk in Estonia: A population-based case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Like many Eastern-European countries, Estonia struggles with ineffective cervical cancer (CC) screening. Despite a long-term organised screening programme and high overall Pap-smear coverage, CC incidence and mortality remain very high. The aim of the study was to examine the reasons for high CC incidence in Estonia by analysing the effect of Pap-smears and sociodemographic factors on CC risk. METHODS: In this population-based case-control study, women aged ≥ 25 years with an in situ/invasive CC diagnosed in Estonia in 2011-2017 were defined as cases. Using a density sampling sche

Choices and challenges in end-of-life care and decision-making: a nationwide cross-sectional study in Bangladesh.

BACKGROUND: End-of-life (EoL) care is the final phase of life (typically the last year when death is imminent), distinct from but related to palliative care, which provides broader support for serious illness. In many low- and middle-income countries, including Bangladesh, end-of-life care remains underdeveloped. Cultural norms, socio-economic disparities, limited palliative care infrastructure, and lack of healthcare provider training further complicate informed decision-making at EoL. This study aimed to evaluate EoL care awareness, preferences, and decision-making factors among critically i

Analysis of Self-Sufficiency and Factors Affecting Migration Between Medical Service Regions in Korea Among CKD Patients.

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) represents a significant public health issue, characterized by high morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. The increasing global prevalence of CKD, attributed to aging populations and rising incidences of diabetes and hypertension, poses challenges affecting 8.2% of adults in Korea. Despite the presence of adequate local healthcare facilities, many patients seek medical care outside their region, leading to escalated costs and regional disparities. This study aims to understand why CKD patients, across various disease stages, opt to receive care ou
