Role of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) in pollen-induced allergic conjunctivitis and pollen dermatitis in mice.

Pollen is a clinically important airborne allergen and one of the major causes of allergic conjunctivitis. A subpopulation of patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) are also known to have exacerbated skin eruptions on the face, especially around the eyelids, after contact with pollen. This pollen-induced skin reaction is now known as pollen dermatitis. Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is a pluripotent cytokine that plays an essential role in allergic inflammation. Recent findings suggest that MIF is involved in several allergic disorders, including AD. In this study, MIF knockout (KO

CD8+ T cells play disparate roles in the induction and the effector phases of murine experimental allergic conjunctivitis.

Although CD4+ Th2 cells clearly play an essential role in the development of experimental allergic diseases, the functions CD8+ T cells may have in these diseases have been investigated less extensively and remain controversial. Here, we investigated the roles of CD8+ T cells in the development of experimental allergic conjunctivitis (EC). EC was induced in CD8alpha-deficient (CD8KO) mice and wild-type (WT) mice by active immunization with short ragweed pollen (RW) followed by challenge with RW-containing eye drops. Alternatively, EC was induced by transferring RW-primed splenocytes followed b

Nano-spanlastics-loaded dissolving microneedle patches for ketotifen fumarate: advanced strategies for allergic conjunctivitis treatment and molecular insights.

Allergic conjunctivitis (AC) is the most common inflammatory disease affecting the eye's ocular surface, lid, conjunctiva, and cornea. However, effective ocular drug delivery remains challenging due to physiological barriers such as the corneal barrier. Ketotifen (KF), a widely used antihistamine and mast cell stabilizer, for treating AC and atopic asthma but belongs to the Biopharmaceutical Classification System (BCS II) have poor solubility. This study developed a multiple strategies approach for the first time, utilizing the spanlastics nano-vesicular carriers' system (SP) containing KF usi
