Topical minoxidil reported hair discoloration: a cross-sectional study.

Minoxidil is a widely utilized medication androgenic alopecia. An original investigation on its potential to cause hair darkening in treated people is lacking. We conducted an observational study using two face-validated questionnaires that dermatologists altered to assess minoxidil's hair discolouration risk. This Saudi Arabian survey collected data in October and November 2022. One questionnaire targeted the population, while the other targeted dermatologists. Survey 1 included 453 patients, 56.7% of whom were 18-24 and mostly female. It's interesting that 26% (n=118) detected hair greying a

Neurological manifestations of mycetoma: a cross-sectional community-based study.

UNLABELLED: Mycetoma is a chronic specific granulomatous progressive and disfiguring subcutaneous inflammatory disease. It is caused by true fungi (Eumycetoma) or by higher bacteria (actinomycetoma). Mycetoma mainly affects the lower limbs, followed by the upper limbs, back, and rarely the head and neck. Mycetoma is mainly transmitted through trauma with infected sharp objects. Herein, we want to determine the neurological manifestations of mycetoma in Sudanese patients. METHODOLOGY: A descriptive cross-sectional community-based study included 160 patients with mycetoma seen in the White Nile

Presence of gastrointestinal symptoms in IgA nephropathy: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are common in end-stage kidney disease. Mounting evidence indicates that the intestine plays an important role in the pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy (IgAN). However, no studies have addressed the obvious question; do IgAN patients suffer from GI symptoms? METHODS: Presence of GI symptoms and health-related quality of life were evaluated using the validated Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSRS) and Psychological General Well-Being (PGWB) questionnaires in 104 patients with kidney biopsy-verified IgAN and in 147 healthy controls. A person was r

Cardiometabolic profile of women with uterine leiomyoma: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Emerging evidence suggests that cardiometabolic risk factors contribute to uterine leiomyoma development, but cardiometabolic profiles of women with the tumor remain poorly defined. This study aimed to determine the association of cardiometabolic comorbidities and cardiometabolic medication use with a leiomyoma diagnosis. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, aggregate-level data from 2013-2020 were collected using the SlicerDicer feature of Epic (Epic, Verona, WI, USA) electronic medical record system. Women ≥18 years with at least one visit or hospital encounter at the Johns H

Methods The nailfold capillaroscopy images of androgenetic alopecia patients and matched controls were collected and analyzed. Results The frequencies of avascular areas, dilated, bushy and bizarre capillaries and capillary disorganization,

Epidemiology of Toxoplasmosis in SERBIA: A Cross-Sectional Study on Blood Donors.

Toxoplasmosis is a globally distributed parasitic zoonosis, affecting approximately one third of the human population. Epidemiological studies on toxoplasmosis conducted in Serbia so far have been focused on women of childbearing age, without a clear insight into the prevalence in the general population. We conducted a cross-sectional study in a representative sample of the healthy adult population consisting of 1095 blood donors of both genders to establish the prevalence and risk factors for Toxoplasma gondii infection. Data on the demographic and clinical characteristics of all study partic

Elevated Myoglobin in Patients With Primary Aldosteronism: A Cross-Sectional Study.

OBJECTIVES: Primary aldosteronism (PA) is characterized by the autonomous excessive production of aldosterone in the adrenal cortex. Aldosterone is associated with damages to heart muscle and skeletal muscle. The purpose of this study was to evaluate serum levels of muscle injury markers and their associated factors in patients with primary aldosteronism. METHODS: We retrospectively enrolled subjects with PA and essential hypertension (EH) who had completed testing for serum high sensitivity troponin T (hs-TnT), creatine kinase isoenzyme MB (CK-MB) and myoglobin from the database of the Chong

OBJECTIVE: Based on the modified diagnostic criteria for oral lichen planus (OLP) proposed by Van der Meij and Van der Waal, the objective of the current investigation was to demonstrate a clinicohistopathological association in the diagnosis of OLP. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data were retrieved from 250 individuals who visited the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology and were diagnosed with OLP between September 2018 and December 2021. Upon completion of the histopathological analysis, the precise diagnosis of OLP was made. Repeat biopsies were performed in the cases suspecting malignant t

Clinical profile and biochemical abnormalities in brucellosis: A cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: Brucellosis is the commonest zoonotic disease worldwide and a common public health problem in Nepal. Because of the highly variable clinical presentation and non-specific manifestations, it remains a big challenge for clinicians from developing countries. Brucellosis has a tropism for the reticuloendothelial system, the liver is frequently involved. There is a paucity of data about the laboratory and clinical findings of human Brucellosis from Nepal. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted this study to find out the clinical profile and biochemical abnormalities of patients w

Availability of Antibiotics for Veterinary Use on the Internet: A Cross-Sectional Study.

The misuse or overuse of antibiotics can favor the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, with a direct impact on human and animal health as well as on ecosystems. In this work, we have analyzed the web pages in which antibiotics for veterinary use can be purchased online. By using a specifically developed software, we carried out a detailed search to know if each individual antibiotic and the families included in the OIE list of antimicrobial agents of veterinary importance (in English and in Spanish) were sold, reviewing the offers according to the administration route and the species for wh

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association of multiple predictors (gait ability, depression, balance, strength of knee extensors on the paretic side, and mobility) with community ambulation (walking speed ≥0.8 m/s) of individuals after chronic stroke. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was carried out with 60 individuals after chronic stroke with a mean age of 59 (±15.75) years. The walking speed (10-m walk test) was used to assess the outcome variable (walking speed ≥0.8 m/s) and the predictors were gait ability (ABILOCO), depression (GDS-15 Geriatric Depression Scale), balance (Berg Balance Sc
