The purpose of this study was to investigate histopathological changes in primary teeth following trauma, and to look for possible correlations between the morphology of pulpal calcification and clinical findings. BACKGROUND: Teeth changes after chemotherapy are of clinical importance, but no morphological studies were conducted on microscopic level.
AIM: To assess morphological changes in teeth developing under chemotherapy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-nine adolescents aged 13-16 years that received chemotherapy at the age of 2-13 were included in the study. Teeth morphology was evaluated by means of clinical and radiological data as well as microscopy of extracted teeth (n=13). Thirty healthy children aged 13-16 and 8 teeth extracted for orthodontic reasons served as a control.

This study evaluated the histological response and the expression of tenascin (TN) and fibronectin (FN) after pulp capping with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) or calcium hydroxide (CH). The histological success of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) pulpotomy for treatment of irreversible pulpitis in human teeth as an alternative treatment was investigated in this study. Fourteen molars which had to be extracted were selected from patients 16-28 years old. The selection criteria include carious pulp exposure with a history of lingering pain. The aim of this study was to evaluate histological aspects of the pulp-dentin complex of dogs submitted to pulpotomy and capped with ethyl-cyanoacrylate and calcium hydroxide. Two case reports with dens evaginatus are presented. Each patient had one tooth affected. There was a prominent tubercle on the occlusal surface of the mandibular second premolar. Under local anesthesia and rubber dam isolation a partial pulpotomy was conducted and mineral trioxide aggregate was placed. Twenty human permanent teeth were used to study the pulpal response of two calcium hydroxide products, Dycal and Pulpdent Multi-Cal, after partial pulpotomy. Teeth were extracted at 4 months, fixed, and prepared for histologic examination. All 10 teeth treated with Dycal showed complete soft tissue healing and bridge formation. Pulp fibroblasts were isolated from human deciduous and supernumerary teeth and cultured in vitro. This article describes a pilot investigation in which the response of the pulps in both sound and carious rat molar teeth to traumatic exposure and treatment with three different compounds was assessed. Two of the compounds appeared to give a more favorable response in carious teeth. These results are discussed, and future experiments described.
