Association Between Personality Traits and Onabotulinumtoxin A Response in Patients With Chronic Migraine.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to analyze the potential association between personality traits and onabotulinumtoxin A (onabotA) response in patients with chronic migraine (CM). BACKGROUND: Previous studies from a categorial perspective show that patients with CM have anxious or obsessive personality according to the Salamanca screening test. However, the influence of personality traits in onabotA response in patients with CM has not yet been studied. We hypothesize that cluster C personality traits may be associated with non-response to onabotA. METHODS: This case-control observationa

Attachment, Mentalization, and Criterion B of the Alternative DSM-5 Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD).

BACKGROUND: The mentalization theory posits that interpersonal difficulties and maladaptive personality traits develop from an insecure attachment pattern with one's caregiver and corresponding deficits in mentalizing-the ability to understand others' and one's own mental states. Mentalizing deficits have been theorized as the basis for all psychopathology, with the paradigmatic case being Borderline Personality Disorder. Nevertheless, developments in the personality field indicate personality pathology is best represented dimensionally, and such a proposal was outlined by the Alternative DSM-

The Northwestern-UCLA youth emotion project: Associations of cognitive vulnerabilities, neuroticism and gender with past diagnoses of emotional disorders in adolescents.

Neuroticism has been hypothesized to be a non-specific risk factor for both anxiety and unipolar mood disorders whereas some cognitive and personality-cognitive vulnerabilities have been hypothesized to be more specific to depression. Using a retrospective design with a sample of 575 high school juniors, we tested three competing models of the associations among these variables. Both neuroticism and the cognitive and personality-cognitive vulnerabilities had significant zero-order associations with rates of past diagnoses of both anxiety and unipolar mood disorders. Neuroticism had significant

Introduction to the special feature on the integrated treatment of personality disorder.

The solid evidence that personality disorders can be treated effectively goes side by side with, on the one hand, sparse evidence for disorders other than borderline and for personality disorders co-occurrent with one another, and, on the other hand, with a relative lack of knowledge about the actual effective mechanisms of change that underpin successful psychotherapies. In this introduction we present the rationale for this special feature, advocating for an integrated treatment of personality pathology in which empirically-supported strategies and techniques are selected from different trad

The relationship between personality profile and self-care among patients with type 2 diabetes.

BACKGROUND: As a chronic disease, diabetes needs special self-care behaviors until the end of life. Personality traits are considered to be effective psychological factors in controlling diabetes and self-care in patients with diabetes. The present study was conducted to determine the relationship between personality profile and self-care among people with type 2 diabetes. METHODS: In this descriptive-correlational study conducted in 2021, 160 patients with type 2 diabetes referred to the diabetes clinic of Imam Khomeini Educational and Medical Center in Ardabil were selected by convenience s

Reduced specificity of autobiographical memory in Cluster C personality disorders and the role of depression, worry, and experiential avoidance.

The study objective was to investigate whether, compared with nonclinical controls, participants with an avoidant, dependent, or obsessive-compulsive Cluster C personality disorder (PD) manifested reduced levels of memory specificity and whether the association of Cluster C PDs with memory specificity is mediated by repetitive negative thoughts and experiential avoidance. The Autobiographical Memory Test (R. J. McNally, N. B. Lasko, M. L. Macklin, & R. K. Pitman, 1995) was administered along with self-report measures (translated into Dutch) for repetitive, uncontrollable, and negative thinking

Behavior problems in children with pure speech disorders and in children with combined speech and language disorders.

Forty-six children with pure speech disorders and 53 children with disorders of both speech and language were rated by parents and teachers for behavioral problems. Both parents and teachers rated the speech- and language-disordered children as having more severe and more frequent behavioral abnormalities, particularly hyperactive behaviors and developmental problems. Somatic complaints were more pronounced in the pure speech group. Conduct disorders, emotional problems, and poor relationships did not distinguish between the two groups. The importance of these findings for speech therapists an

Major depression in patients with borderline personality disorder: a clinical investigation.

OBJECTIVE: Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is characterized by a high frequency of comorbidity with major depressive disorder (MDD). This study aimed to compare the clinical characteristics of 2 groups of patients with MDD: those with concomitant BPD and those with other concomitant personality disorders. METHODS: We assessed 119 outpatients, using a semistructured interview for demographic and clinical features, the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV, Hamilton anxiety and depression scales, the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (ZSDS), the Social and Occupational Functioning Asse

Therapy-resistant periodontitis. Psychosocial characteristics.

This study investigated the perspective of a stress system disorder in the pathogenesis of therapy-resistant periodontitis. The goal was to find indications that the stress-behaviour-immune system model holds as an explanatory model for the understanding of periodontal disease. 2 patient-groups were compared: one group classified as responding well to periodontal treatment (responsive-group, R-group, n=11); the other group was classified as responding less well to treatment (non-responsive-group, NR-group, n=11). Somatic and psychological factors were described as obtained by interviews and ps

Personality disorders evident by early adulthood and risk for anxiety disorders during middle adulthood.

Data from the Children in the Community Study, a prospective longitudinal investigation, were used to investigate the association of personality disorder (PD) traits, evident by early adulthood, with risk for development of anxiety disorders by middle adulthood. Individuals without a history of anxiety disorders who met diagnostic criteria for >or=1 PD by early adulthood were at markedly elevated risk for agoraphobia, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and panic disorder by middle adulthood. Antisocial, avoidant, borderline, dependent, depressive, histrionic, obsessiv

Longitudinal study of the influence of life events and personality status on diagnostic change in three neurotic disorders.

It has been known for many years that diagnosis within the neurotic spectrum of disorders is temporally unstable and also that life events c … ts were associated with diagnostic change. More life events were associated with the flamboyant and dependent personality disorders, reinforcing other evidence that many life events are internally generated by personality characteristics and cannot be regarded as truly independent.

Psychiatric comorbidity in temporal DNET and improvement after surgery.

BACKGROUND: "Alien tissue" may be responsible for a higher frequency of psychiatric disorders in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). Also, ganglioglioma and dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumors (DNET) could represent a risk-factor for the development of post-surgical psychoses. Classically, severe psychiatric disorders contra-indicate epilepsy surgery. OBJECTIVES: Assessment of inter-ictal psychiatric disorders in 10 consecutive patients with temporal DNET, before and after epilepsy surgery with a minimum of a 2-year follow-up evaluation. METHODS: DNETs were confirmed on histologi

Is the appendix a useful appendage? An empirical examination of depressive, passive-aggressive (negativistic), sadistic, and self-defeating personality disorders.

Decisions about whether to include depressive, passive-aggressive, sadistic, and self-defeating disorders in Axis II have been made difficult by a relative dearth of data. We report the results of a study identifying potential defining features of these diagnoses and assessing their distinctiveness from other Axis II personality disorders (PDs). A national sample of experienced psychiatrists and psychologists used the SWAP-200 to describe a patient with a current axis II disorder or an appendix or deleted PD from DSM-II-R. We examined clinicians' descriptions of patients to identify their most

Personality Traits in Borderline Personality Disorder: A Cluster Analysis Based on the Millon Test Scores.

INTRODUCTION: The complexity of the treatment of borderline personality disorder (BPD) is largely due to its heterogeneity. The aim of this study is to identify empirically derived patterns of co-occurring personality traits in individuals with primary BPD and to examine their clinical correlates. METHODS: Millon's personality traits (MCMI-IV) of 97 BPD patients were assessed and a cluster analysis of these traits was performed. Patients were evaluated on different clinical dimensions of BPD and compared between the different clusters found. RESULTS: Three trait-pattern clusters were obtaine

Establishing a clinically relevant cutoff to the Dependency Scale from the dimensional clinical personality inventory.

The Clinical Dimensional Personality Inventory (IDCP) is a 163-item self-report tool developed for the assessment of 12 dimensions of personality pathology. One of the scales comprising the instrument-the Dependency scale-is intended to provide psychometric information on traits closely related to the Dependent Personality Disorder (DPD). In the present study, we used both Item Response Theory modeling and Receiver Operating Characteristic curve analysis to establishing a clinically meaningful cutoff for the IDCP Dependency Scale. Participants were 2.481 adults, comprised by outpatients diagno…

Borderline personality and substance use in women.

The association between borderline personality disorder (BPD) and substance use disorder (SUD) was examined in a predominantly psychiatric (77.6%) sample of 232 women. BPD proved to be a significant predictor of a lifetime diagnosis of SUD across four different categories: any SUD (including alcohol); alcohol use; drug use; and heroin, cocaine, or poly-substance use. BPD continued to be a predictor of SUD even when the effects of other cluster B and all cluster C PDs were controlled statistically. Antisocial personality disorder generally yielded larger odds ratios than BPD and emerged as a pa

Higher Impulsivity As a Distinctive Trait of Severe Cocaine Addiction among Individuals Treated for Cocaine or Alcohol Use Disorders.

AIMS: Despite alcohol being the most often used addictive substance among addicted patients, use of other substances such as cocaine has increased over recent years, and the combination of both drugs aggravates health impairment and complicates clinical assessment. The aim of this study is to identify and characterize heterogeneous subgroups of cocaine- and alcohol-addicted patients with common characteristics based on substance use disorders, psychiatric comorbidity and impulsivity. METHODS: A total of 214 subjects with cocaine and/or alcohol use disorders were recruited from outpatient trea

Drug use disorders in Japanese eating disorder patients.

A previous questionnaire study suggested that drug use disorder (DUD: abuse/dependence on drugs, other than alcohol) in Japanese eating disorder (ED) patients was less prevalent than in Western countries, although eating and drug use disorders have spread simultaneously in Western countries. However, the precise prevalence and comorbidity features remain unknown. Subjects consisted of 62 patients with anorexia nervosa restricting type; 48 patients with anorexia nervosa binge eating/purging type; and 75 patients with bulimia nervosa purging type. The Japanese version of the Structured Clinical
