An evaluation of the ambulatory diagnosis and treatment of seborrheic dermatitis in PWH in a regional healthcare system.

BACKGROUND: Seborrheic dermatitis is a common inflammatory skin condition which disproportionately impacts persons with HIV (PWH). Non-dermatologists, including primary care and HIV clinicians, are often the first providers to diagnose and manage inflammatory dermatoses. Data is lacking regarding the quality of management of such common dermatoses by non-dermatologist compared to dermatologic specialists. METHODS: We evaluated the treatment of and referral patterns for seborrheic dermatitis relative to accepted standards of care among outpatient dermatologists and non-dermatologists in a regi

Patient and Healthcare Provider Perspectives on the Pathway to Diagnosis of Seborrheic Dermatitis in the United States.

INTRODUCTION: Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a common, chronic inflammatory skin condition associated with significant impact on quality of life, yet its etiology and pathophysiology are not well understood. With significant impact on patients' quality of life, understanding the diagnostic pathway from the perspectives of patient and healthcare providers (HCPs) is crucial. METHODS: An online survey was developed and administered in conjunction with the Harris Poll to gain insight into patient and HCP perspectives about SD diagnosis and management from December 2021 to January 2022. RESULTS: M

Exploring the Impact of Vitamin D and Zinc Deficiencies on Seborrheic Dermatitis: A Comparative Study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that affects patients' quality of life. Emerging evidence suggests that vitamin and mineral deficiencies may contribute to its progression, although the exact etiology remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: This case-control study assessed the serum levels of vitamin D and zinc in SD patients compared to a healthy control group, with a focus on how these deficiencies relate to disease severity. METHODS: A total of 71 SD patients and 71 healthy controls participated, providing demographic data and blood samples. Dis

Chemical Composition and Antimicrobial Potential of a Plant-Based Substance for the Treatment of Seborrheic Dermatitis.

Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is the most prevalent dermatological disease, occurring in up to 50% of newborns, children, and adults around the world. The antibacterial and antifungal resistance contributed to the search for new natural substances and the development of a novel substance based on Melaleuca alternifolia (M. alternifolia) leaf oil (TTO), 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), and α-(-)-bisabolol. Thus, this work aimed to determine the chemical composition of the novel plant-based substance and to evaluate its antimicrobial activity against standard microorganisms involved in the pathogenesis of

A Clinicoepidemiological Study of Cutaneous and Systemic Comorbidities of Seborrheic Dermatitis in Adolescent and Adult Females.

Background Seborrheic dermatitis is the most common, chronic inflammatory skin condition which is confined to the scalp, nasolabial folds, and regions rich in sebaceous glands for which no definitive cause has been found. Although the disease is more common, the comorbidities associated with it have not been studied in detail. This study aims to assess the prevalence of seborrheic dermatitis and its associated cutaneous and systemic comorbidities in adolescent and adult patients. Methodology This cross-sectional study was performed among 451 adolescent and adult female patients who visited the

Comparison of Malassezia Colonization of 'Maskne' Patients with Seborrheic Dermatitis Cases and Healthy Individuals.

BACKGROUND: With the Covid-19 pandemic, the use of masks has increased the frequency of 'maskne' cases. Local physiological changes due to the use of mask have caused changes in the presence of yeasts in the environment, such as acne and seborrheic dermatitis. OBJECTIVES: The aim is to compare the differences of Malassezia species in the maskne region. MATERIALS AND METHOD: A total of 408 subjects wearing masks at least 4 h a day for 6 weeks or longer, compromised of 212 acne patients, 72 seborrheic dermatitis sufferers, and 124 healthy volunteers were included in this study. Second-to-fourth digit ratio and seborrheic dermatitis in males: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Seborrheic dermatitis is a common disease characterized by the erythematous plaques with oily-yellow desquamation. Increased sebaceous gland activity by androgenic hormones has played a role in the etiology of the disease. The second-to-fourth digit (2D:4D) ratio is thought to be a marker of prenatal androgen exposure. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the association between 2D:4D ratios and seborrheic dermatitis in a male population. METHODS: Healthy male controls and patients with seborrheic dermatitis were included in this study. One hundred seborrheic dermatitis patients and 120 he

Humoral immune response to Malassezia furfur in patients with pityriasis versicolor and seborrheic dermatitis.

Humoral immune responses against exoantigen components of oval, elliptic and round yeast forms of Malassezia furfur were analysed by ELISA and Western blotting assays, using sera from patients with pityriasis versicolor (PV), seborrheic dermatitis (SD) and healthy adults (HA), as control. Sera from patients with SD showed IgG anti-oval M. furfur titers ranging from 1/400 to 1/6400 showing geometric mean (GM) of 1/1472, higher than those obtained with sera from patients with PV (1/200 to 1/6400, GM = 1/1239). Both patient groups showed mean titres statistically superior (P < 0.05) than those ob
