Aggressive angiomyxoma is a rare mesenchymal tumor. To discuss the clinicopathological characteristics, treatment and prognosis of aggressive angiomyxoma, four cases of aggressive angiomyxoma of soft tissue in abdominopelvic cavity were collected from January 2015 to August 2017 in Peking University International Hospital. A case of bizarre leiomyoblastoma (BL) of the cervix uteri which developed in a 44-year-old premenopausal woman was reported. The tumor was found as a cervical polyp by routine pelvic examination. Histologically, it was composed of epithelioid and bizarre, often multinucleated, giant tumor cells without elevated mitotic counts and necrosis. A case of leiomyosarcoma of the retroperitoneum with rhabdomyoblastic areas which developed in a 59-year-old woman is reported. The tumor was composed mostly of spindle cells immunoreactive with desmin and smooth muscle actin antisera. In the lesion there were no fewer than five patches constituted by large pleomorphic elements which reacted with antidesmin, sarcomeric actin and myoglobin antisera. These dual features were interpreted as the result of a divergent differentiation of neoplastic cells.

BACKGROUND: Dedifferentiation is a histologic progression of a neoplasm from low grade to high grade histology. It occurs in tumors of the retroperitoneum and in those undergoing treatment.
