When 17 patients were surgically treated for spinal tuberculosis and osteomyelitis, anterior spine fusion was performed by A. Ye. Garbuz's procedure that was based on the replacement of a spinal defect by a carbon-carbonic implant that had rifampicin containers in the frontal sections, as well as by autologous bone grafts. The carbon-carbonic implants reliably fix an operated spinal portion, prevent the progression of kyphotic deformity, and create good conditions for autologous bone grafts to knit. An osteocarbonic block forms in the late postoperative period.

A method of application of firm and resilient temporary intermaxillary fixation using readily available orthodontic elastomeric chain is described. Advantages lie in the time efficiency of its use, relative safety compared to tie-wiring techniques, flexibility of direction of pull, and the ease and rapidity with which it can be removed. The back skin of a 15-year-old girl with Marfan syndrome has been investigated using scanning (SEM) and transmission (TEM) electron microscopy. The SEM showed that admixed with normal-looking portions, there were abnormal portions of the elastic fibers which were composed of many unusual fine fibers (5-22 nm in diameter), and had a cobweb-like appearance. We studied by light and electron microscopy the elastic fibers in he sun exposed and sun protected skin of normal and psoriatic individuals of different ages in order to separate the changes of actinic damage from those of chronological aging.
