[Changes in somatosensory evoked potentials in patients with vertebrogenic pain syndromes treated by electroacupuncture].

Application of electroacupuncture (EAP) of the segmental points to patients with vertebrogenic algesic syndromes decreased amplitude of N150 and P240 waves recorded from vertex to painful electrocutaneous stimulation in the region innervated by an affected root. As distinct from EAP of segmental point auricular EAP not only decreased the amplitude of late components of evoked potentials (EP), but also increased it, direction of EP changes depending on the character of sensitivity disorders. It is suggested that effect of EAP-evoked EP changes in patients with hypalgesia is determined by two op…

Electroacupuncture alleviates Parkinson's disease by targeting HDAC/SIRT-mediated deacetylation of 14-3-3.

INTRODUCTION: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons and the accumulation of pathological α-synuclein. Although current treatments can alleviate symptoms, they do not modify disease progression. Growing evidence implicates gut microbiota dysbiosis and aberrant protein acetylation in PD pathogenesis. Electroacupuncture (EA) has shown therapeutic potential in PD; however, its effects on protein acetylation remain unclear. METHODS: A PD mouse model was established through MPTP induction and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT)…

A Gut-Protective TRPV1-Neuroepithelial Axis: Electroacupuncture Reverses Intestinal Damage in Diet-Induced Obesity.

AIM: Obesity impairs the colonic mucus layer and disrupts intestinal barrier function, leading to chronic inflammation. This study explores whether electroacupuncture can restore intestinal barrier integrity and alleviate chronic intestinal inflammation by promoting goblet cell mucus secretion via the TRPV1-CGRP-RAMP1 axis. It also examines the underlying mechanisms of sensory neuron. Epithelial cell crosstalk in this process, with the goal of providing a new interventional strategy for treating obesity-related intestinal barrier damage and metabolic inflammation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In a …

Electroacupuncture may improve endometrial receptivity in controlled ovarian hyperstimulation mice by activating AVP neurons.

BACKGROUND: Controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) can lead to reduced endometrial receptivity during the window of implantation (WOI) and disrupted expression of endometrial clock genes. This study aimed to explore the potential mechanisms by which electroacupuncture (EA) improves endometrial receptivity in COH mice, focusing on the regulation of central and peripheral clock genes within the circadian system. METHODS: Experiment 1 included three groups of mice: control (CTR), COH, and EA. Each group was further subdivided into six subgroups according to sampling time. Tissue samples were …

Electroacupuncture for temporomandibular disorder-related pain: clinical evidence, mechanisms, and safety-a narrative review.

Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a common and complex disease characterized by pain, noises in the joints, and dysfunction of the mandible, significantly impacting the patient's quality of life and day-to-day functioning. Electroacupuncture (EA), which is a combination of conventional acupuncture and electric current, has emerged as an important non-pharmacologic treatment modality for the management of TMD-associated pain. In this narrative review and comprehensive synthesis, we have discussed in detail the clinical evidence, mechanisms, and safety profile of EA for treating TMD. While evi…

Electroacupuncture attenuates PVN-SCG sympathetic hyperactivation to improve cardiac function in myocardial infarction mice.

Myocardial infarction (MI) triggers maladaptive sympathetic overactivation, which acts as a key driver of adverse cardiac remodeling and progression to heart failure. Electroacupuncture (EA) at the Neiguan (PC6) acupoint exhibits reliable cardioprotective effects, yet its central neural mechanisms remain incompletely clarified. This study investigated whether EA at PC6 improves post-MI outcomes by modulating the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus-superior cervical ganglion (PVN-SCG) sympathetic axis. MI was surgically induced by permanent ligation of the left anterior descending coronary art…

Electroacupuncture for Menstrual-Related Migraine: Protocol for a Multicenter Single-Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial.

IMPORTANCE: Menstrual-related migraine (MRM) is a prevalent neurological condition affecting females, with prolonged duration, severe symptoms, and poor drug response, significantly impairing their quality of life. Electroacupuncture shows promise as a nonpharmacological intervention for migraine. However, there is a deficiency in high-quality evidence-based research assessing its efficacy in MRM. To address this gap, we present a detailed protocol to evaluate electroacupuncture's therapeutic effects in MRM. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: A total of 120 participants with MRM will be randomly divided i…
