This paper describes the current status of the vaccine cold chain that was developed in the 1970s. It then describes the changes that are likely to take place in the next 5 to 10 years and their potential impact on the existing system. OBJECTIVE: To determine the magnitude of risk for preterm labor associated with specific clinical and environmental factors.
METHODS: Using a case-control design, 266 women with preterm labor and 512 controls were interviewed and their medical records reviewed. Crude and adjusted odds ratios were calculated for each risk factor. Population-attributable risks were estimated.

Factors that determine whether naltrexone and pentobarbital anesthesia block the hypoalgesia produced by electric shock were investigated. The number of shocks delivered, the time since the last shock, and whether the subject is removed from the shock environment for testing were all found to be critical. A protocol for sampling environmental sites was developed and used to identify possible sources of Legionella species in support of epidemiologic investigations at two hospitals. In hospital A, legionellae were isolated from 43 of 106 (40%) different sites.
