Facilitators and barriers to implementing AI-assisted diagnostic systems in primary healthcare services in low-resource settings: a mixed-methods study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Although AI-assisted diagnostic systems are increasingly deployed in primary care globally, evidence from multiple countries indicates that deployment does not necessarily ensure clinical uptake. Resource-constrained and dispersed regions face implementation challenges, yet the mechanisms remain unclear. This mixed-methods protocol employs the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) to systematically identify barriers and facilitators to AI implementation in primary care in such settings. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This study adopts a sequential mixed-methods design

Experiences of acute pain in children who present to a healthcare facility for treatment: a systematic review of qualitative evidence.

BACKGROUND: Pain is a universal and complex phenomenon that is personal, subjective and specific. Despite growing knowledge in pediatric pain, management of children's pain remains sub-optimal and is linked to negative behavioral and physiological consequences later in life. As there is no synthesis of these studies, it was timely to undertake a systematic review. OBJECTIVES: To identify, evaluate and synthesize the existing qualitative evidence on children's experiences of acute pain, including pain management, within a healthcare facility. INCLUSION CRITERIA TYPES OF PARTICIPANTS: Children

Feasibility and effectiveness of electronic vs. paper partograph on improving birth outcomes: A prospective crossover study design.

BACKGROUND: The partograph has been endorsed by World Health Organization (WHO) since 1994 which presents an algorithm for assessing maternal and foetal conditions and labor progression. Monitoring labour with a partograph can reduce adverse pregnancy outcomes such as prolonged labor, emergency C-sections, birth asphyxia and stillbirths. However, partograph use is still very low, particularly in low and middle income countries (LMICs). In Bangladesh the reported partograph user rate varies from 1.4% to 33.0%. Recently, an electronic version of the partograph, with the provision of online data

Personal and work-related factors associated with post-traumatic growth in nurses: A mixed studies systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Nurses, assuming a wide range of clinical and patient care responsibilities in a healthcare team, are highly susceptible to direct and indirect exposure to traumatic experiences. However, literature has shown that nurses with certain traits developed a new sense of personal strength in the face of adversity, known as post-traumatic growth (PTG). This review aimed to synthesize the best available evidence to evaluate personal and work-related factors associated with PTG among nurses. DESIGN: Mixed studies systematic review. METHODS: Studies examining factors influencing PTG on c

Risk factors for uterovaginal prolapse among women in public hospitals of Sidama, Ethiopia: a case control study.

INTRODUCTION: Utero-vaginal prolapse is a significant public health concern in developing countries such as Ethiopia, where access to health care is limited. It is a major reproductive crisis in women that affects a woman's quality of life and has a great negative impact on women's social, physical, economic, and psychological wellbeing. Despite this, there is limited evidence on risk factors in the study area. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the risk of utero-vaginal prolapse among women visiting gynecologic outpatient departments in governmental hospitals. METHODS: A facility-based

Population-based tobacco treatment: study design of a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Most smokers do not receive comprehensive, evidence-based treatment for tobacco use that includes intensive behavioral counseling along with pharmacotherapy. Further, the use of proven, tobacco treatments is lower among minorities than among Whites. The primary objectives of this study are to: (1) Assess the effect of a proactive care intervention (PRO) on population-level smoking abstinence rates (i.e., abstinence among all smokers including those who use and do not utilize treatment) and on utilization of tobacco treatment compared to reactive/usual care (UC) among a diverse popu

Effect of a mass radio campaign on family behaviours and child survival in Burkina Faso: a repeated cross-sectional, cluster-randomised trial.

BACKGROUND: Media campaigns can potentially reach a large audience at relatively low cost but, to our knowledge, no randomised controlled trials have assessed their effect on a health outcome in a low-income country. We aimed to assess the effect of a radio campaign addressing family behaviours on all-cause post-neonatal under-5 child mortality in rural Burkina Faso. METHODS: In this repeated cross-sectional, cluster randomised trial, clusters (distinct geographical areas in rural Burkina Faso with at least 40 000 inhabitants) were selected by Development Media International based on their hi

Development and preliminary evaluation of a ciliary muscle-oriented motor imagery script for primary school children: a school-based cluster randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Myopia in children is occurring earlier and progressing faster, while existing interventions such as outdoor activity and device-based visual training are often difficult to implement consistently in school settings. Motor imagery (MI), as a low-burden cognitive approach, may offer a complementary pathway for visual-function support. However, ciliary muscle-oriented MI scripts specifically designed for children remain underdeveloped. PURPOSE: This study aimed to develop a ciliary muscle-oriented MI script based on the PETTLEP model for primary school children and to compare two tr

Perinatal care experiences of women living with disability in Africa: a qualitative systematic review protocol.

OBJECTIVE: This review will explore the perinatal care experiences of women living with disability in African countries. INTRODUCTION: In many African countries, most women with disability face stigma and discrimination. They are also at risk of unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases due to gender-based violence and sexual abuse. Qualitative studies on perinatal care experiences of women with disability in Africa indicate challenges such as social stereotypes, lack of access to health facilities, and insensitivity from health professionals. Synthesizing the qualitative findings

Essential childbirth and postnatal interventions for improved maternal and neonatal health.

Childbirth and the postnatal period, spanning from right after birth to the following several weeks, presents a time in which the number of deaths reported still remain alarmingly high. Worldwide, about 800 women die from pregnancy- or childbirth-related complications daily while almost 75% of neonatal deaths occur within the first seven days of delivery and a vast majority of these occur in the first 24 hours. Unfortunately, this alarming trend of mortality persists, as 287,000 women lost their lives to pregnancy and childbirth related causes in 2010. Almost all of these deaths were preventab

Knowledge, attitudes, and practices of safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene among pre-adolescent students in public and private schools in Jordan: cross-sectional school-based study.

BACKGROUND: Maintaining good hygiene, which is easily applied with access to safe and adequate water, is an important preventive step against various infectious disease transmissions that might spread as a result of unclean water and inadequate sanitation. Jordan is one of the world's most water-stressed countries, and only one in three schools has basic sanitary facilities, which poses severe health risks to students. Assessing WASH-related knowledge, attitudes, and practices provides valuable evidence to guide interventions that promote healthy behaviors and reduce these risks. PURPOSE: Thi

Impact of clinical decision support on controlled substance prescribing.

BACKGROUND: Prescription drug overdose and misuse has reached alarming numbers. A persistent problem in clinical care is lack of easy, immediate access to all relevant information at the actionable time. Prescribers must digest an overwhelming amount of information from each patient's record as well as remain up-to-date with current evidence to provide optimal care. This study aimed to describe prescriber response to a prospective clinical decision support intervention designed to identify patients at risk of adverse events associated with misuse of prescription opioids/benzodiazepines and pro

Stepped care for depression at integrated chronic care centers (IC3) in Malawi: study protocol for a stepped-wedge cluster randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Malawi is a low-income country in sub-Saharan Africa that has limited resources to address a significant burden of disease-including HIV/AIDS. Additionally, depression is a leading cause of disability in the country but largely remains undiagnosed and untreated. The lack of cost-effective, scalable solutions is a fundamental barrier to expanding depression treatment. Against this backdrop, one major success has been the scale-up of a network of more than 700 HIV clinics, with over half a million patients enrolled in antiretroviral therapy (ART). As a chronic care system with dedica
