Dry eye is one of the most common complications after laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK). Anophthalmia is an absence of ocular tissue in the orbit. Important aspects in the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of both congenital and acquired anophthalmic patients are reviewed. Congenital and acquired anophthalmia differ in etiology, but many concepts of management can apply to either category. Specific steps in the evaluation and treatment including the proper timing for medical and surgical intervention will be discussed. The major goals for the ophthalmologist are to optimize motility and symmetry of the eyelids and orbit and coordinate efforts with other medical specialties.

BACKGROUND: The use of blood-derived eye drops for topical treatment of ocular surface diseases has progressively increased in recent years.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: To evaluate the use of serum eye drops in ocular surface disorders, we performed a systematic search of the literature.
RESULTS: In this systematic review, we included 19 randomised controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the use of serum eye drops in 729 patients compared to controls. For the quantitative synthesis, we included only 10 RCTs conducted in patients with dry eye syndrome comparing autologous serum to artificial tears.

PURPOSE: We present a challenging case of a 9-year-old patient with refractory neurotrophic keratopathy (NK) who was successfully treated with cenegermin eye drops.
METHODS: A 7-year-old boy developed an ocular infection after a visit to a public swimming pool. After having been unsuccessfully treated for 2 years with antibiotics, steroids, and artificial tears, the patient presented to our clinic with a therapy-refractory NK.
