Erythromelanosis follicularis faciei et colli is a rare disease of unknown etiology characterized by symmetric erythematous brownish hyperpigmentation on the frontal, malar and temporal areas associated with involvement of the pilary follicle. It is common to present pilar keratosis on the shoulders and neck. The three main clinical characteristics are: erythema (with or without telangiectasias), discrete follicular papules and brownish hyperpigmentation.

The large and extensive lesions on this young patient's face led us to an even more troubling finding.

BACKGROUND: There is no global qualitative grading system for assessing the disease load and global severity of disease in a patient with postacne scarring.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this article is to provide a simple qualitative grading system that would allow better communication between practitioners of a patient's global disease severity and the most appropriate corresponding therapy for that degree of acne scarring.
METHODS: Four grades of postacne scarring are described, and appropriate therapeutic interventions are presented for each. Grade assignment is made by lesion morphologies a

Granuloma faciale is a benign, chronic disease which is characterized by red-brown facial nodules and plaques. This quite rare disease is mostly seen in middle-aged males. A 41-year-old female patient consulted our department with a facial lesion of 4 years' duration. A dermatological examination revealed a pink-brown plaque of 1x5 cm over the nasal dorsum extending to the left malar region. Her personal and family histories were unremarkable. The routine hemogram and biochemical tests were normal, antinuclear antibody was negative. In the histopathological examination of the biopsy material w

BACKGROUND: It is widely believed that nonablative laser techniques can lead to dermal collagen remodeling without the obvious epidermal injury and the wound created with ablative approaches. This occurs when dermal collagen injury is induced without visible injury to the overlying epidermis.
OBJECTIVE: To examine the acute histologic effects both 1 hour and several days after standardized treatment protocols of dynamically cooled millisecond domain Nd:YAG 1320 nm laser to provide further insight into the mechanism of action of nonablative resurfacing.
METHODS: Multiple adjacent sites on the

Pseudofolliculitis barbae is a common skin disorder of the beard area that is characterized by the presence of inflammatory follicular papules due to terminal hair shafts re-entering the epidermis. Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation and scarring often occur with pseudofolliculitis barbae. Such skin changes can lead to cosmetic disfigurement and be of great concern to the patient. We report a case of pseudofolliculitis barbae and hirsutism with associated postinflammatory hyperpigmentation in an African-American woman who was effectively treated with the diode laser.

We report a case of facial annular lesions in a non-diabetic, Japanese woman aged 78, the histopathological study of which showed noncaseating, epithelioid cell granuloma with multinucleated giant cells. Together with the aberrant laboratory data, these clinical and histopathological findings were considered to be compatible with those of sarcoidosis, but elastic tissue stain disclosed the existence of elastolytic changes which were clinically and histopathologically similar to those found in actinic granuloma or annular elastolytic giant cell granuloma. Based on a review of the literature, we

A 6-year-old girl of Ethiopian origin with atopic eczema from the age of 2 years is reported. Prior to a visit to her grandparents in Ethiopia, she received 250 mg chloroquine weekly as prophylaxis against malaria. Three weeks later she developed sharply demarcated depigmentation on the face, especially in the peritoneal area. On returning home to Norway, the medication was discontinued and after a few weeks the first repigmentation was noticed. Complete repigmentation was observed 1 year after cessation of chloroquine therapy.
