The hindfoot compartment syndrome occurs in 10% of cases after calcaneal fracture. We analyzed the pathological anatomical reasons for this syndrome using the 10 feet from cadavers plastinated and cut into 4-mm thick sequential sections. Mycetoma, also known as madura foot, is a local, chronic, slowly progressive disease with the classic presentation involving tumefaction, multiple draining sinuses, and grain-filled pus. It is primarily produced by either a bacteria (actinomycetoma) or a fungal (eumycetoma) organism. Determining the causative organism is fundamental to the treatment process. MR imaging can be extremely helpful in evaluating congenital and acquired deformities of the foot and ankle. Knowledge of the normal developmental anatomy of the foot and ankle is important to accurately identify abnormalities versus normal variants. The foot and ankle may be abnormal because of trauma, infection, tumor, or systemic disease. MR imaging can help in the differential diagnosis of abnormalities as well as in treatment planning and follow-up.

We undertook a prospective study to determine the type and distribution of foot and ankle snowboarding injuries. Reports of 3213 snowboarding injuries were collected from 12 Colorado ski resorts between 1988 and 1995. Of these, 491 (15.3%) were ankle injuries and 58 (1.8%) were foot injuries. Ankle injuries included 216 (44%) fractures and 255 (52%) sprains. Thirty-three (57%) of the foot injuries were fractures and 16 (28%) were sprains. One hundred and one patients who sustained gunshot wounds to their feet were retrospectively reviewed. All patients were treated at King/Drew Medical Center between 1982 and 1994.
