This paper reports on a case of oral melanosis resultng from Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome, a hereditary disease characterized by harmatomatous polyposis and by mucocutaneous melanic pigmentation, in a 14-year-old Fijian girl with a family history of the disease. The patient underwent surgery for treatment of an intestinal obstruction due to a small intestine intussusception. Recognition of the characteristic pigmentation by dentists may lead to early diagnosis of associated harmatomatous polyps or neoplastic disease that may be life threatening.

Positive patch test reactions to 2% cinnamic aldehyde were obtained from 2.8% of 34 males and 9.1% of 55 females. The 9.1% female reactivity may be traceable to perfumed cosmetics. Simultaneous Jasmin allergy is documented as is the occurrence of alpha-amyl cinnamic aldehyde in synthetic Jasmin. The relevance of these reactions is discussed. In two of the patients a proper diagnosis was not made from the original contact history. Only after a screening tray demonstration of cinnamic aldehyde allergy could a relevant history be taken from these patients.

We observed a newborn infant of a previously reported kindred with absent dermal ridge pattern, syndactyly, and facial milia. The infant's features were consistent with three other kindreds, suggesting that this entity is a single disorder with variable expression. Furthermore, this entity should be considered in the differential diagnosis of excessive congenital facial milia and erosions.

INTRODUCTION: Onychomycosis is the fungal infection of the nail plate by dermatophytes, yeasts and nondermatophyte molds. The treatment of onychomycosis poses many challenges due to low initial cure rates and a high rate of relapse and recurrence. Oral therapy is limited by adverse events and drug-drug interactions, whereas topical therapy has limited penetrance through the nail plate.

The palmoplantar keratodermas (PPKs) are a large group of genodermatoses comprising nearly 60 genetically distinct diseases. They are characterized by hyperkeratosis on the palms and soles with or without extrapalmoplantar hyperkeratotic lesions. Focal PPK is one of the hallmarks of pachyonychia congenita, a rare autosomal dominant disorder resulting from mutations in the keratin genes KRT6A, KRT6B, KRT16 or KRT17. Lichen planus (LP) and lichen nitidus (LN) present with varied morphology on the palms and soles. We present four unusual cases of palmoplantar LP and LN manifesting as hyperkeratotic plaques with pits. The diagnosis was confirmed histologically. By comparing originally stained PAS slides (i.e. without repeating PAS) with newly stained Grocott methenamine-silver (GMS) slide, D'Hue et al. concluded that GMS is superior to PAS.
