INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis is a rare co-occurrence with systemic sclerosis, in around 2.5-9% of patients. The clinical manifestations and prognosis of vasculitis in systemic sclerosis depend on organ involvement. It presented with rapidly progressive acute renal failure without malignant hypertension, and with pitting hand and foot ulcers get along with purpuric vasculitis in some cases reports. Reports had found that survival in those with pulmonary-renal syndrome is poor. However, high-dose corticosteroids and cyclophosphamid

INTRODUCTION: Periarticular thenar erythema with onycholysis (PATEO) syndrome is a rare subtype of hand-foot syndrome seen in patients undergoing taxane-based chemotherapy. It presents as erythematous to violaceous plaques on the dorsum of hands, feet, and around the Achilles tendon along with nail changes, particularly onycholysis.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 39-year-old female on paclitaxel chemotherapy for stage IIIA (T3N2aM0) invasive ductal breast carcinoma, presented with mildly tender erythematous to violaceous plaques involving the dorsa of bilateral hands and feet, in the periarticular area…

BACKGROUND: Heart-hand syndromes are a heterogeneous group of genetic disorders characterised by the association of congenital cardiac disease and limb deformities. Laminopathies are a group of diseases caused by mutations in the LMNA gene encoding A-type lamins.
RESULTS: We report a new LMNA mutation (c.1609-12T>G, IVS9-12 T>G) that creates a new cryptic splicing site with the retention of 11 intronic nucleotides in the mRNA. This LMNA mutation segregates with a new type of heart-hand syndrome in a previously reported family suffering from adult onset progressive conduction system disease, a

BACKGROUND: Cerebellar vermis hypoplasia has been associated with a large number of chromosomal abnormalities and metabolic disorders, with few candidate genes clearly linked to isolated cerebellar vermis hypoplasia.
PATIENT DESCRIPTION: We describe on a 12-year-old boy with inferior vermian hypoplasia associated with a novel de novo microdeletion. He presented with intellectual, speech and language impairment, unilateral facial nerve weakness, marked constipation, and bilateral hand and foot anomalies that were not consistent with any previously described syndrome. His hand features were dig

The purpose of this series was to identify cases that appeared on sonography to be split-hand/foot malformations (SHFMs) in fetuses and correlate the sonographic findings, including 2-dimensional (2D) and 3-dimensional (3D) sonography, to outcomes. A retrospective review was conducted of sonographic studies from 2002 to 2012 at 2 fetal care centers. Data were collected with respect to the morphologic characteristics of split-hand/foot abnormalities, the utility of 3D sonography, associated anatomic abnormalities, family histories, gestational ages at diagnosis, fetal outcomes, karyotype, and a

Acrorenal syndrome is characterized by central longitudinal axis defects of the limbs, ie, split hand and/or foot. Associated renal lesions described so far comprise agenesis, bilateral hypoplasia (originally diagnosed as oligomeganephronia), and duplication abnormalities. The case of a 29-year-old patient with split hand resulting from bilateral aplasia of the third phalanges associated with dysplasia of the third and fourth metacarpals is reported. In addition, the following lesions were noted: hypoplasia of the middle phalanx of the fifth toe, arched palate, pectus excavatum, hypoplastic ma

Ectrodactyly has not previously been reported in children with Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome (WHS). Based on this premise and the identification of an unbalanced translocation between chromosomes 4p15 and 10q25 in a fetus with ectrodactyly and hemimelia, a second locus for dominantly inherited split hand/foot malformation (SHFM3) was mapped to chromosome 10q24-q25. We present the clinical findings of an infant with WHS and SHFM and suggest that the presence of additional loci on 4p which modify/cause SHFM cannot be excluded.

Feingold syndrome (or oculodigitoesophagoduodenal syndrome; Microcephaly, Mesobrachyphalangy, Tracheo-esophageal fistula syndrome) is a dominantly inherited combination of hand and foot abnormalities, microcephaly, esophageal/duodenal atresia, short palpebral fissures and learning disabilities, first reported in 1975 (MIM 164280). We report on the seventh family with Feingold syndrome. The propositus is a male infant with esophageal and duodenal atresia, brachymesophalangy of the fifth fingers, bilateral syndactyly of toes 4-5 (and 2-3), relative microcephaly, and facial anomalies. We report on a male newborn with a rarely described congenital limb deficiency syndrome consisting of shortening and anterior bowing of the right lower limb at the distal third of the tibia with associated overlying soft tissue dimpling, oligodactyly of the right foot, and a left-sided oligosyndactyly of the hand. The right hand and left lower limb were clinically normal. Radiographic examination revealed complete absence of the right fibula, absence of the right-sided Vth ray, and anterior bowing and shortening of the right-sided tibia. Femora, humeri, ulnae, and radii were normal. The infant

BACKGROUND: Feingold syndrome is a combination of hand and foot anomalies, microcephaly, tracheo-esophageal fistula, esophageal/duodenal atresia, short palpebral fissures and developmental delay. The most frequent physical findings are clinodactyly of the second and fifth fingers with absent or hypoplastic middle phalanges, and syndactyly of the toes. Inheritance is autosomal dominant (MIM number 164280) with full penetrance concerning hand anomalies, variable expressivity and great intrafamilial variability.

Polyfibromatosis syndrome is a rare disease entity that is characterized by various clinical features such as palmar, plantar, and penile fibromatoses, keloid formations of the skin, and erosive arthropathy. Its precise pathophysiology or etiology remains unclear. In addition to distinctive diverse skin manifestations, patients with polyfibromatosis have been previously reported to show erosive arthropathy with significant limitation of movement at affected joints. However, the presence of erosive polyarthropathy in polyfibromatosis has not emphasized in previous cases. Here, we report a case

We present a case of a 32-year-old male who developed capecitabine-induced phimosis which resolved spontaneously without the need for circumcision within a few days of discontinuation of chemotherapy. The patient was on capecitabine with irinotecan chemotherapy for peritoneal metastasis from adenocarcinoma of the lower esophagus. A detailed literature review showed a few case reports with penile and scrotal erythema, ulceration, and swelling along with hand-foot syndrome, but none reported the occurrence of phimosis with spontaneous resolution.

The split-hand/split-foot anomaly is a component of several disorders which may occur sporadically or be transmitted as autosomal dominant or autosomal recessive traits. We describe a severely mentally handicapped patient with ectrodactyly of both feet in association with extreme microphthalmia, central cleft-lip and palate and mental retardation. She has an apparent de novo 46,XX,t(6;13) (q21;q12) unbalanced translocation. Either of these breakpoints may be the locus for the ectrodactyly-ectodermal dysplasia-facial cleft (EEC) syndrome.

A Thai girl with a unique combination of limb and craniofacial anomalies is reported. Manifestations include blepharoptosis; prominent nose; hypodontia; multiple, hyperplastic frenula; and dysplastic ears. Limb anomalies include short stature, postaxial polydactyly of both hands and the left foot, proximal and distal symphalangism of fingers, and congenital absence of the distal phalanges of toes 2-5. Mutation analyses of NOG and GDF5, the genes responsible for symphalangism-related syndromes, were negative.

Hox genes specify developmental boundaries and determine cell fate during morphogenesis. Recently, two human syndromes, synpolydactyly and hand-foot-genital were shown to result from mutations in HOX genes. Both disorders affect digital arch structures and can involve genitourinary malformations. These studies confirm the critical role of these highly conserved transcription factors in the specification of growth and patterning of skeletal elements and axial soft tissues in humans.

The most prominent subjective complaints are loss of sensation and stress pains in the foot. The symptoms resemble the carpal tunnel syndrome in the hand. The reproducible local pain on pressure below the medial malleolus is the prinicpal clinical symptom. The treatment of choice is the division of the retinaculum flexorum and if necessary, neurolysis of the tibial nerve. Etiopathogenetically, congestions due to standing, local distension of veins, consequences of trauma, tenosynovits, local tumorous processes and abnormalities of the abductor of the great toe must be considered.

Ocular manifestations are common associations of ectrodactyly-Ectodermal dysplasia-cleft palate (EEC) syndrome. We would like to report a case of a 48-year-old patient with EEC syndrome who manifested ocular and extraocular signs and symptoms. The ophthalmic findings in this patient included chronic blepharitis and absence of meibomian gland. There was also a presence of hazy cornea with vascularized corneal stroma and symblepharon involving the lower lid. Systemic conditions showed generalized dry and scaly skin with hand-foot split deformity. Therefore, ophthalmologists should be alert to sp

A series of 37 patients aged 4-64 years has been evaluated with criteria of Lee and Ramirez. Diagnosis of Marfan syndrome has been established in 13 cases, in 24 patients the Marfan phenotype has been found. In both groups body height, upper extremities length, the length of upper and lower body segment, length of the foot and hand have been recorded. Metacarpal index has been calculated. Antropometric measurements did not reveal significant differences in body parts proportions between these two groups.
