[Prevention of legionellosis in hotel establishments: a proposal to introduce a plan of action in accordance with Provision 13 January 2005 (Italy)].

Provision 13 January 2005 (Italy) gives guidelines for legionellosis control and prevention in hotel and thermal establishments. Considering that Legionella pneumophila is an ubiquitous organism , the implementation of actions to control the risk of Legionella in the water distribution systems of various types of establishments (hospital, hotel, thermal), or to at least reduce it to acceptable levels, is warranted. The authors have prepared a plan of action for Legionella which, besides describing the main points of the provision and the roles of managers and technicians, also includes the dat

Comments on Whiley Legionella Risk Management and Control in Potable Water Systems: Argument for the Abolishment of Routine Testing. Int. J. Environ. Res. Public Health 2017, 14, 12.

In their recent article, Whiley makes an interesting case for the abolishment of routine testing in Legionella risk management and control plans. Here, we present our views regarding this suggestion, drawing upon our own experiences in the UK. We urge caution against the removal of routine monitoring from guidelines due to the impending public health risks that would result.

Case study: Obesity, genital oedema and lower limb compression bandaging.

The purpose of this article is to present an evidence-based rationale for lymphoedema compression bandaging, one aspect of treatment for a patient with complex lower limb lymphoedema. The current health care climate requires treatment decisions to be transparent, based on the best available evidence. The challenge faced by community nurses is to formulate treatment plans which incorporate patients' preferences and best use limited resources provided by clinical environments. The article appraises research in order to formulate a suitable treatment plan and provides discussion and reflection re

Assessment of the effectiveness of supply-side cost-containment measures.

This article assesses the arguments and evidence concerning the likely effectiveness of four supply-side cost-containment measures. The health planning efforts of the 1970s, particularly certificate-of-need regulations, had very limited success in containing costs. The new and related tools of technology assessment and practice guidelines hold some promise for refining benefit packages, but they are inadequate for micromanaging complex medical practices. Payment policies, such as hospital ratesetting, have enjoyed some success in limiting hospital cost growth but are less effective at controll

Climate change and heat stress in Malawi: A multi-index assessment with implications for health, labor, and cooling energy demand.

Malawi's population, predominantly engaged in rain-fed agriculture and outdoor labor, faces increasing heat stress risks under climate change. This study characterizes historical heat stress at 22 stations (2000-2023) using ERA5 reanalysis and seven complementary thermo-physiological indices, establishing an evidence-based baseline for climate-health adaptation planning. Validation against station observations confirms ERA5 reliability with a conservative cool bias. Bangula (Nsanje) in the Lower Shire Valley emerges as the extreme heat hotspot, with maximum UTCI reaching 48.44°C and "very stro

Panel experts in shaping the nutrition and food safety guidelines for CYCWs in KwaZulu-Natal, SA.

BACKGROUND: The study is based on the view that food contamination and limited knowledge of health and hygiene are some challenges Child and Youth Care Centres (CYCCs) face. The South Africa Nutrition Education Programme (NEP) was a conceptual framework within which the study is embedded. Despite the existence of relevant legislation and processes on food preparation, safety and healthy eating, South Africa's CYCCs are still characterised by practice limitations. AIM: The study explores the use of expert panels in the review of newly developed guidelines for child and youth well-being. SETTI
