The action of a crude potato-tuber extract on 9- and 13-hydroperoxides of linoleic and linolenic acids was investigated. HPLC analysis revealed that 50% of the 9-hydroperoxide isomers and almost all the 13-hydroperoxide isomers were rapidly enzymically metabolized. New imido derivatives of succinic acid were screened pharmacologically with regard to their influence on the central nervous system. No relation was found between the character and position of substituents and depressant action on the CNS. For the first time the experimental method of exogenous RNA has been used to evaluate the role of protein synthesis in different organs for the development of resistance to the soporific effect of barbiturates.
