OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) eye drops on corneal wound healing.
METHODS: Twenty-four white rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups, 6 rabbits 12 eyes each. Anterior keratectomy of 8 mm in diameter and 1/3 cornea in thickness was performed on each eye. We report here a rare interaction between reactive astrocytes and oligodendrocytes, first detected in a brain biopsy of human Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) and then in experimental CJD in mice and in two models (263K and 22CH) of scrapie in hamsters. Gloves are indispensable in many occupations. Irritant skin reactions from gloves have, however, been reported. In the present study, the effect of long-term glove occlusion on normal skin (6 h/day for 14 days) was studied and, in addition, the effect of a cotton glove worn under the occlusive glove was also studied. 2 studies were performed (studies A and B). Two patients who underwent plasmapheresis for severe myasthenia gravis showed marked exacerbation of myasthenic weakness at the end of exchange sessions, in which citrate was used for anticoagulation. In one patient, improvement occurred after the administration of calcium but not after edrophonium. In rabbits and in rats with experimental autoimmune myasthenia gravis, decremental muscle response to 3 Hz repetitive nerve stimulation worsened significantly after injection of the citrate anticoagulant. The worsened neuromuscular transmission defect was reversed by the administration of calcium.

Experimental infection of two human volunteers with Ancylostoma ceylanicum produced patent infection.
