BACKGROUND: Erythrodermic psoriasis (EP) is a severe, systemic inflammatory dermatosis. While kidney involvement is rare, the massive cytokine release associated with EP can induce systemic complications. We report a rare case of EP complicated by the simultaneous onset of immune complex-mediated crescentic glomerulonephritis (GN) and atypical haemolytic uraemic syndrome (aHUS), highlighting a severe form of complement-mediated renal injury in the context of dermatological inflammation. The chronic course of viral and toxic hepatitis is associated with the involvement into the pathogenesis of the disease of the immune processes whose mechanisms remain obscure. The clinical association between glomerulonephrtis (GN) and malignant hematological disease is very rare. We report, in a 24 years old male, the occurrence of an apparently idiopathic nephrotic syndrome with minimal change glomerular lesions. In the original description of serum sickness by Von Pirquet and Schick (1905) vasculitis was described as a feature. This was subsequently shown to be due to circulating immune complexes, which are known to be eosinotactic. The following report describes a case of serum sickness, occurring in a 14-year-old boy, characterized by diffuse vasculitis with communicating hydrocephalus and accompanied by a pronounced eosinophilia. A significantly raised antibody (IgG) titre to measles virus was demonstrated in his serum and indicated that this agent probably provided the initial antigenic stimulus.
