[Reappearance of post-vaccination infection of measles, rubella and mumps. Should adolescents be revaccinated?].

Measles-mumps-rubella immunization has had a dramatic impact on the incidence of these diseases and their complications. However, a partial coverage, as seen in Belgium and France, only slows the spread of the wild virus, thus increasing the age at infection and the risk of complications. This is to be added to the fact that there are 5% primary vaccine failure (no antibody production) and 5% secondary vaccine failure (loss of antibodies over time). When introducing first immunization at 15 months of age it is thus very important to increase quickly the immunization coverage by immunization of

Aptamer-based Salmonella enteritidis-inactivated vaccine injected intradermally elicits local leukocyte recruitment and mucosal immunity in broiler chickens.

On-farm non-adapted Salmonella enterica ser. Enteritidis (S. Enteritidis) control in poultry requires vaccines that elicit rapid local immune responses maturing into long-lasting systemic and mucosal protective immunity. To assess the responses to primary and secondary intradermal (i.d.) immunization with CD40-agonistic DNA aptamer-based S. Enteritidis-inactivated vaccine (CD40-AP), thirty chicks were randomly assigned to six treatment groups (n = 5 per group) at hatch. Groups g1 - g3 received only a primary i.d. immunization on day 32, while groups g4 - g6 received a subcutaneous primary immu

Measles-mumps-rubella immunization of susceptible hospital employees during a community measles outbreak: cost-effectiveness and protective efficacy.

OBJECTIVE: To determine cost-effectiveness and protective efficacy of a program to identify and immunize susceptible hospital employees during a measles outbreak. DESIGN: A cost analysis was made of blind measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) immunization versus directed MMR immunization based on 2,000 employees born after December 31, 1956. A directed MMR immunization program for susceptible employees was instituted. Actual costs of the program were calculated at the conclusion of the program. SETTING: A medical center complex with more than 4,000 employees, two acute care community hospitals, and a

[Basic immunization of vaccines is fundamental, and booster immunization is the guarantee: Booster immunization and its public health value].

Booster immunization is the following vaccination after a period of vaccine primary immunization schedule in order to maintain immunity against a certain pathogen. In this article, the immunological mechanism of booster immunization is elaborated, and the effectiveness and public health value of booster immunization for common vaccines is discussed. Subsequently, three hot issues of general concern in booster immunization are addressed, and the public health viewpoint that "Primary immunization of vaccines is fundamental, and booster immunization is the guarantee" is emphasized, so as to raise

Feeding treats containing cannabidiol (CBD) did not alter canine immune response to immunization with a novel antigen.

Due to the potential risk for cannabidiol (CBD) to negatively impact the immune system, the objective of the current study was to evaluate the effect of CBD on the canine immune response to immunization with a novel antigen, keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH). Thirty-two dogs (22.4 ± 6.3 kg BW) were utilized in a completely randomized design with treatments consisting of 5 mg CBD/kg BW/d and a control administered orally via treats. After a 7-d acclimation to treatments, dogs were immunized with 10 mg/dog of KLH via intramuscular injection into the semimembranosus muscle region, which was repeate

The impact of BCG dose and revaccination on trained immunity.

The innate immune system can display heterologous memory-like responses termed trained immunity after stimulation by certain vaccinations or infections. In this randomized, placebo-controlled trial, we investigated the modulation of Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG)-induced trained immunity by BCG revaccination or high-dose BCG administration, in comparison to a standard dose. We show that monocytes from all groups of BCG-vaccinated individuals exerted increased TNFα production after ex-vivo stimulation with various unrelated pathogens. Similarly, we observed increased amounts of T-cell-derived IF

Protective immunization against experimental Bacteroides (Porphyromonas) gingivalis infection.

The effects of immunization in modulating the pathogenesis of Bacteroides (Porphyromonas) gingivalis infection in a murine model system were examined. BALB/c mice were immunized by intraperitoneal injection with B. gingivalis ATCC 53977 (one injection per week for 3 weeks), or with a lithium diiodosalicylate (LIS) extract (one injection per week for 3 weeks), or with lipopolysaccharide (LPS; one intravenous or intraperitoneal injection) from this same strain. Two weeks after the final immunization, the mice were challenged by subcutaneous injection of B. gingivalis ATCC 53977. Mice immunized w

Completion of the National Childhood Immunization Schedule and Associated Factors Among Children Aged 24-35 Months in Afghanistan: A Nationwide Analysis of MICS 2022-23.

BACKGROUND: Childhood immunization coverage remains low in Afghanistan, but evidence is limited regarding completion of the broader national immunization schedule beyond the first year of life. This study estimated full-schedule immunization coverage and examined factors associated with its completion among Afghan children aged 24-35 months. METHODS: We analysed nationally representative data from the Afghanistan Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) 2022-23, including 6342 children aged 24-35 months. Full immunization was defined according to the MICS TC.11b indicator for completion of al

Transfer of anaphylactic antibodies from mother to young in the rat.

The transfer of anaphylactic antibodies of classes IgE and IgGa from immunized female rats to babies was examined during primary and secondary immunization by injection, and also in rats infested with Trichinella spiralis. IgE antibodies were never detected in the blood of the babies, although they were sometimes detected in the milk in their stomachs. Similarly, no IgE antibodies were found in the serum of babies from mothers infested with Trichinella spiralis during pregnancy. IgGa antibodies were present in the serum and milk of the mothers following secondary immunization, and were readily
