Hypothermic incubation of chicken eggs leads to smaller embryos with enlarged hearts, originally described as hypertrophic. Over the years, however, accumulated evidence suggested that hyperplasia, rather than hypertrophy, is the predominant mechanism of cardiac growth during the prenatal period. OBJECTIVE: To study the epidemiology of Acinetobacter baumannii infection in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP).
METHODS: Prospective clinical study was carried out with 176 episodes of VAP with etiologic diagnosis being followed in two groups.

The monocytic cell line U937-1 was cultured in the presence of eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5, n-3) (EPA) or oleic acid (18:1, n-9) (OA). EPA caused a dose-dependent inhibition of cell proliferation, whereas OA had no effect.
