Patterns of health-risk behaviors among Chinese adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic: a latent class analysis.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent health-risk behaviors are prevalent and tend to co-occur. This study aimed to identify patterns of health-risk behaviors among Chinese adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic and explore the effects of individual and social factors on health-risk patterns. METHODS: This cross-sectional study investigated 1607 adolescents from four high schools in 2021 through stratified cluster random sampling. Latent class analysis was conducted to identify patterns of health-risk behaviors and logistic regression was used to examine the risk and protective factors of latent class mem…

A global cross-sectional survey on neonatal analgosedation: unveiling global trends and challenges through latent class analysis.

PURPOSE: This study aims to analyze global prescribing patterns for analgosedation in neonates during four critical care scenarios. The research explores existing patterns, their association with geographic and sociodemographic index (SDI), and adherence to evidence-based practices. METHODS: Data from a 2024 global survey of 924 responses to 28 questions were analyzed, focusing on four items for their high variability: premedication in intubation (Q17), sedation in preterm (Q19) and full-term newborns (Q23), and perinatal asphyxia (Q26). Latent class analysis (LCA) classified neonatal intensi…

Clusters of post-acute COVID-19 symptoms: a latent class analysis across 9 databases and 7 countries.

OBJECTIVE: Prior evidence has suggested the multisystem symptomatic manifestations of post-acute COVID-19 condition (PCC). Here we conducted a network cluster analysis of 24 World Health Organization-proposed symptoms to identify potential latent subclasses of PCC. STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: Individuals with a positive test of or diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 after September 2020 and with at least 1 symptom within ≥90 to 365 days following infection were included. Subanalyses were conducted among people with ≥3 different symptoms. Summary characteristics were provided for each cluster. All analyse

Identifying Trends in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms, Type of Trauma, and Associated Features: A Latent Class Analysis.

The aim of the study was to identify salient groupings of trauma survivors based on Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)-5 posttraumatic stress disorder symptomatology. Latent class analysis was used in 365 outpatient mental health trauma survivors. We identified six classes with two spectra-prominent avoidance and negative alterations in cognitions/mood (NACM)-and a resilient class (a plurality). Sexual assaults were more common among avoidance-prominent classes, and suicide attempts and tobacco problems were more common among NACM-prominent classes. Previous studies ha…

Patterns of Socioeconomic Marginalization among People Who Use Drugs: A Gender-Stratified Repeated Measures Latent Class Analysis.

Socioeconomic factors are important correlates of drug use behaviors and health-related outcomes in people who use drugs (PWUD) residing in urban areas. However, less is known about the complex overlapping nature of socioeconomic conditions and their association with a range of individual, drug use, and health-related factors in men and women who use drugs. Data were obtained from two community-recruited prospective cohorts of PWUD. Using a gender-stratified approach, we conducted repeated measures latent class analyses (RMLCA) to identify discrete latent socioeconomic subgroups. Multivariable

Patterns of Adverse Childhood Experiences and Problematic Health Outcomes Among US Young Adults: A Latent Class Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) predict problematic health outcomes (eg, substance use, mental health) among young adults; whether specific ACEs are differentially associated with specific substance use and mental health symptoms is understudied. METHODS: Latent class analysis (LCA) identified classes of ACEs among 2209 US young adults (Mage = 24.69, range: 18-34; 57.4% female; 30.9% sexual minority; 35.8% racial/ethnic minority) in a 2-year study (2018-2020). Multivariable logistic regressions examined ACEs (reported in 2019) in relation to 2020 reports of current (past 30…

A Latent Class Analysis of Substance Use and Longitudinal HIV RNA Patterns Among PWH in DC Cohort.

People with HIV (PWH) with substance use disorders (SUD) have worse health outcomes than PWH without SUD. Our objective was to characterize substance use patterns and their impact on longitudinal HIV RNA trajectories among those enrolled in an observational study of PWH in care in Washington, DC. Substance use by type (alcohol, cannabis, opioid, stimulant, hallucinogen, inhalant, sedative) was used to identify shared patterns of substance use using Latent Class Analysis (LCA). A multinomial logistic regression model evaluated the association between the resulting substance use classes and the …

Mental health responses to the COVID-19 pandemic: a latent class trajectory analysis using longitudinal UK data.

BACKGROUND: The mental health of the UK population declined at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Convenience sample surveys indicate that … al health deteriorated with the onset of the pandemic and did not begin improving until July, 2020. Latent class analysis identified five distinct mental health trajectories up to October 2020. Most individuals in the population had either consistently good (7437 [39·3%] participants) or consistently very good (7623 [37·5%] participants) mental health across the first …

Latent class analysis to assess whole-genome sequencing versus broth microdilution for monitoring antimicrobial resistance in livestock.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) monitoring in animals is performed in commensal Escherichia coli, and other microorganisms relevant for human or veterinary health. Due to advances in the field and major reductions in cost, it is expected that whole-genome sequencing (WGS)-based antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) will (partly) replace culture-based AST. So far, no studies have been performed without using culture-based AST as the gold standard. Our aim was to use Bayesian latent class analysis to evaluate the accuracy of susceptibility testing of commensal E. coli by WGS-based AST versus…

Testing the validity of ICD-11 PTSD and CPTSD among refugees in treatment using latent class analysis.

INTRODUCTION: The WHO has proposed posttraumatic stress (PTSD) and Complex PTSD (CPTSD) trauma-related sibling-disorders in ICD-11. The proposal has received support from research among clinical and community samples alike but only few studies have tested the validity of these disorders in a sample of refugees using the International Trauma Questionnaire especially designed for assessment of ICD-11 PTSD and CPTSD. METHODS: Latent class analysis was used to test the validity of the ICD-11 PTSD and CPTSD distinction in a heterogeneous group of 284 highly symptomatic refugees registered for trea…

Identifying Syndemics for Sexually Transmitted Infections Among Young Adults in the United States: A Latent Class Analysis.

PURPOSE: Syndemic theory suggests that the convergence of social, environmental, and ecological factors can interact to exacerbate behavioral health problems and are often intensified by social conditions and disparities. This study used latent class analysis (LCA) to determine gender and racial/ethnic specific classes for sexually transmitted infection (STI) risk. METHODS: LCA included 18 measured socioeconomic, depression, substance use, and sexual behavioral variables from 1,664 young adults ages 18-25 in the NHANES. Models were stratified by gender and then by race/ethnicity. Logistic reg…

A Multi-Group Latent Class Analysis of Chronic Medical Conditions Among Men Who Have Sex with Men.

Until recently, research on the health of gay and other men who have sex with men (MSM) has focused on risk for and the health consequences of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. A multigroup latent class analysis examined a range of lifetime chronic medical conditions (CMCs) among MSM. Covariates included sociodemographics, substance use, psychological distress, and HIV serostatus. A two-class model best fit the medical condition data: a low probabilities class for most CMCs and a moderate to high probabilities (MHP) class. HIV serostatus was associated with increased within-class …
