Specific leukemic infiltration of the skin is possible in all types of leukemia, and occurs most commonly in monocytic leukemias. We report the case of a 76-year-old woman with chronic myelogenous leukemia who showed specific cutaneous lesions one month before she died. In the absence of other signs of accelerated disease or blast crisis, cutaneous lesions should be considered an ominous sign in chronic myelogenous leukemia.

We present a case of a patient in her 70s with an 11-month history of Rai stage 1 chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) who presented to the emergency department with bilateral lower extremity weakness, frequent falls, urinary retention and incontinence worsening for 2 weeks. Whole-spine MRI with and without contrast revealed continuous patchy and confluent enhancement from C1-T10, consistent with lymphomatous infiltration. Leukaemia cutis is a relatively rare manifestation in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, characterized by a diverse morphology of skin lesions. We report two patients who developed zosteriform skin symptoms; however, the histological analysis revealed leukaemia infiltration as the cause of their symptoms. Contrary to previous reports, varicella zoster virus DNA was detectable in the lesions. These findings suggest that varicella zoster virus plays an active role in the development of zosteriform leukaemia cutis.

A seven-year-old crossbred male dog with a suspected leukaemic condition was referred for investigation and treatment. A bone marrow aspirate revealed an acute myeloid leukaemia. Combination chemotherapy was administered and the dog initially improved, but 18 days after the initiation of therapy its body condition deteriorated and the animal developed acute respiratory distress. On postmortem examination, extensive leukaemic pulmonary infiltrates were evident.

We reported a specific skin lesion on the scalp in a patient with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), treated as refractory anemia with excess of blasts (RAEB). B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) is a low-grade lymphoproliferative disease. Cutaneous involvement of B-CLL is limited and, in most cases, it represents non-specific manifestations related to an impaired immune system. Leukemic skin infiltrates (leukemia cutis) occur in 4-20% of patients. Herein we report the case of a 65-year-old woman with B-CLL presenting with papular, nodular, and plaque skin infiltrates affecting the nose, mimicking granulomatous rosacea. We discuss several aspects of rare cutaneous manifestations of B-CLL involving the face.
