One of the most distressing aspects of periodontitis is the unesthetic appearance of maxillary and mandibular anteriors. The elongation of the crowns due to root exposure and increased interdental spacing results in unesthetic appearance. Surgical procedures for gingival recession coverage do not have acceptable results in cases of severe gingival recession. So nonsurgical methods like gingival veneers should be considered as a treatment modality in such cases. This article aims to revisit the gingival veneer: its uses, advantages, disadvantages, and its fabrication. The case discussed here hi

Genioplasty has been a useful and frequently employed technique in the aesthetic facial surgeon's armamentarium. However, as the prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea becomes more apparent and its diagnosis more frequent, genioplasty has also evolved to a commonly performed procedure for reconstruction of the upper airway. This article discusses patient evaluation and surgical techniques used in aesthetic and functional surgery of the chin. Because these topics have been discussed extensively in the literature, this will serve as a synopsis of current techniques.

The main objective of this article is to describe the indications for custom-made alloplastic reconstruction of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) using the new techniques of virtual surgical planning and computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology through the study of a clinical case and an updated review of the literature. The patient was a 45-year-old male with a fast-growing condylar dysplasia that produced a progressive facial deformity with limited mandibular mobility, which required a radical resection. Predictable, satisfactory, and stable results over time a

INTRODUCTION: The rehabilitation of the posterior maxilla with implant-supported prosthesis is often complicated by pneumatization of the maxillary sinus. Bone grafting is commonly required in these cases. Over the years, a number of techniques have been developed for this type of reconstruction.
AIM: Present and discuss the possibility of alveolar bone regeneration for subsequent placement of oral implants using Fugazzotto's technique in combination with particulate autograft harvested from the mandibular ramus and a connective tissue pedicle flap to cover the graft.
METHODS: A case of a 37

In this article, we describe the first case in the literature in which 3D computer-assisted treatment planning and guided surgery enabled a patient affected by extreme paraphysiologic mandibular bone atrophy to be treated with a free vascularized fibula flap and, after a period of healing, the flapless installation of 4 immediately loaded dental implants. The computer-fabricated surgical guide allowed placement of the implants according to the "All-on-Four" concept in a proper spatial preplanned position and by tilting 1 implant, avoiding an area of bone discontinuity. Additionally, this techn

This article reviews 31 condylar neck fractures in 30 patients stabilized with different types of plates with emphasis on complications associated with different types of plates. Indications for stabilization were predominantly bilateral fractures, shortening of the ascending ramus due to lack of occlusal buttressing and condylar neck fractures associated with panfacial fractures. Stabilization was achieved with a single (23 fractures) or a double adaptation miniplate (4 fractures), a 2.4 mm plate (2 fractures) or a TMJ prosthesis (2 fractures). Eight fractures exhibited complications requirin

Background: Defects of the ascending ramus of the mandible, including the condylar head and neck or the whole temporomandibular joint (TMJ), are difficult to reconstruct. Reconstruction is mainly based on the use of alloplastic joint prosthesis, costochondral grafting, distraction osteogenesis of the dorsal part of the mandibular ramus, or osseous microvascular flaps of various origin. With the objective of developing a method that overcomes the restrictions of these methods, we recently introduced a sequential chimeric flap consisting of a lateral femoral condyle flap (LFC) and deep circumfle

A prosthetic total joint replacement (TJR) may be indicated for patients who suffer from severe dysfunction or resorption of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Currently, the patient-specific or custom TMJ-TJR prosthesis options are plentiful. However, there is a lack of thorough (long term) follow-up studies. The aim of this prospective study was to assess the 3 to 7-year follow-up outcomes of the patient-specific Groningen temporomandibular joint total joint replacement (G-TMJ-TJR) prosthesis (Xilloc Medical®, Geleen, the Netherlands). Longitudinal assessments of surgical outcomes, changes i

OBJECTIVE: To compare the influence of different emergence profile of implants in mandibular molar on the peri-implant soft tissue.
METHODS: Forty-four implants were divided into two equal groups by mucosal thickness, ≥2 mm (group A) or < 2 mm (group B), and were randomly included in the test group and the control group. In the control group, the patients were treated by a prosthesis with no transmucosal modifications (subgroups A1 and B1). In groups A1 and B1, the prostheses maintained the original emergence profile of the healing abutment. In the test group, the prostheses were designed bas

OBJECTIVES: Titanium and zirconia are commonly used materials for implant frameworks. The selection of prosthetic material influences the load-bearing capacity of fixed dental prostheses and plays a critical role in the longevity of implant-supported fixed dental prostheses (ISFDPs) by affecting stress transmission during the chewing cycle.
PURPOSE: To evaluate clinical results, prosthetic results, and patient satisfaction associated with fixed prostheses fabricated from polyetheretherketone and titanium-zirconia, supported by six maxillary implants and opposed by mandibular distal extension

BACKGROUND: Oral squamous papilloma (OSP) is a benign epithelial proliferation commonly linked to human papillomavirus (HPV) and usually affects the palate, tongue and lips. Anterior mandibular alveolar mucosa involvement is uncommon, and overlap between koilocytic HPV-suggestive change and chronic denture-related trauma is rarely documented. A review of the literature indicates limited documentation of such overlapping clinicopathological features at this anatomical site.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 49-year-old non-smoking male with absence of alcohol consumption history, presented with a 12-month
