Oxytocin Neuron-Specific CAPS2 Deficiency in Mice Impairs Hippocampal Plasticity and Long-Term Memory Through Reduced ERK Phosphorylation in the Ventral hippocampus.

Oxytocin (OXT), a neuropeptide produced in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of the hypothalamus, regulates social behaviour, stress responses, and memory. Our previous studies demonstrated that intracerebroventricular administration of OXT ameliorates amyloid-β-induced cognitive deficits and that selective activation of PVN OXT neurons enhances memory performance. These findings suggest that endogenous OXT secretion is essential for normal memory processing and that its impairment may lead to cognitive dysfunction. To test this hypothesis, we generated oxytocin neuron-specific conditional kno

ZD7288 ameliorates long-term cerebral ischemia reperfusion-induced deterioration of spatial memory by regulating the expressions of NMDA receptor subunits in rats.

To study the effect of inhibition of hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated cation channel (HCN) on spatial memory with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (IR) in rats, the middle cerebral artery occlusion was performed to induce the IR injury. ZD7288 (5 µg/µl) and MK-801 (100 µg/µl) were administrated by lateral ventricular injection. Except for the sham group, all other groups were subjected to ischemia for 2 h followed by reperfusion for 4 weeks. The neurological impairment was evaluated using the neurological deficit score, and the Morris water maze detected changes in spatial memo

A Mold Damage Monitoring Algorithm for Power Metallurgy Molding Machines Using Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory on an Internet of Things Platform.

In this paper, an analysis and monitoring algorithm is proposed for mold health evaluation using vibration data. Two inertial measurement units (IMUs) and an embedded system are first used to acquire vibration data from a powder metallurgy molding machine. These data are collected on an Internet of Things (IoT) platform using the Message Queueing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol. For data analysis, the vibration signal on the Z axis is segmented to label the contact section of the upper and middle molds, and the corresponding vibration data of the stamping friction on the X, Y, and Z axes a

Soft sensing of NOx emission from waste incineration process based on data de-noising and bidirectional long short-term memory neural networks.

Continuous emission monitoring system is commonly employed to monitor NOx emissions in municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) processes. However, it still encounters the challenges of regular maintenance and measurement lag. These issues significantly impact the accurate and stable control of NOx emissions. Therefore, developing a soft NOx emission sensor to complement hardware monitoring becomes imperative. Considering data noise, dynamic nonlinearity, time series characteristics and volatility in the MSWI process, this article introduces a soft sensor model for NOx emission prediction uti

Inner-Cycle Phases Can Be Estimated from a Single Inertial Sensor by Long Short-Term Memory Neural Network in Roller-Ski Skating.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to provide a new machine learning method to determine temporal events and inner-cycle parameters (e.g., cycle, pole and ski contact and swing time) in cross-country roller-ski skating on the field, using a single inertial measurement unit (IMU). METHODS: The developed method is based on long short-term memory neural networks to detect the initial and final contact of the poles and skis with the ground during the cyclic movements. Eleven athletes skied four laps of 2.5 km at a low and high intensity using skis with two different rolling coefficients. They w

Gut Microbiota and Development of Vibrio cholerae-Specific Long-Term Memory B Cells in Adults after Whole-Cell Killed Oral Cholera Vaccine.

Cholera is a diarrheal disease caused by Vibrio cholerae that continues to be a major public health concern in populations without access to safe water. IgG- and IgA-secreting memory B cells (MBC) targeting the V. cholerae O-specific polysaccharide (OSP) correlate with protection from infection in persons exposed to V. cholerae and may be a major determinant of long-term protection against cholera. Shanchol, a widely used oral cholera vaccine (OCV), stimulates OSP MBC responses in only some people after vaccination, and the gut microbiota is a possible determinant of variable immune responses

Acute Cortical Excitability Change is Associated with Long-Term Working Memory Improvement by HD-tDCS Treatment in Schizophrenia: a TMS-EEG Study.

BACKGROUND AND HYPOTHESIS: Working memory (WM) deficits are a core cognitive impairment in schizophrenia (SCZ). High-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS) targeting the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) has shown promise for improving WM, yet biomarkers indicating its efficacy remain limited. We hypothesized that HD-tDCS would enhance WM in SCZ and that changes in transcranial magnetic stimulation combined with electroencephalography (TMS-EEG) metrics can serve as potential biomarkers of treatment response. STUDY DESIGN: Sixty-three SCZ patients were randomized to

Myoelectric-Based Estimation of Vertical Ground Reaction Force During Unconstrained Walking by a Stacked One-Dimensional Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory Model.

The volitional control of powered assistive devices is commonly performed by mapping the electromyographic (EMG) activity of the lower limb to joints' angular kinematics, which are then used as the input for regulation. However, during walking, the ground reaction force (GRF) plays a central role in the modulation of the gait, providing dynamic stability and propulsion during the stance phase. Including this information within the control loop of prosthetic devices can improve the quality of the final output, providing more physiological walking dynamics that enhances the usability and patient

Study of Five-Hundred-Meter Aperture Spherical Telescope Feed Cabin Time-Series Prediction Studies Based on Long Short-Term Memory-Self-Attention.

The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST), as the world's most sensitive single-dish radio telescope, necessitates highly accurate positioning of its feed cabin to utilize its full observational potential. Traditional positioning methods that rely on GNSS and IMU, integrated with TS devices, but the GNSS and TS devices are vulnerable to other signal and environmental disruptions, which can significantly diminish position accuracy and even cause observation to stop. To address these challenges, this study introduces a novel time-series prediction model that integrates Long Shor

An aqueous macerate of Ziziphus jujuba reduces long-term spatial memory impairment in D-galactose treated rats: role of anti-inflammatory pathways.

Pharmacological treatments against Alzheimer disease provide only symptomatic relief and are associated with numerous side effects. Previous studies showed that a concoction of Ziziphus jujuba leaves possesses anti-amnesic effects in scopolamine-treated rats. More recently, an aqueous macerate of Z. jujuba leaves has been shown to reduce short-term memory impairment in D-galactose-treated rats. However, no study on the effect of an aqueous macerate of Z. jujuba on long-term memory impairment was performed. Therefore, this study evaluates the effect of an aqueous macerate of Z. jujuba on long-t

Glycogen synthase kinase 3 inhibition lowers PD-1 expression, promotes long-term survival and memory generation in antigen-specific CAR-T cells.

Successful remission in hematological cancers by CAR-T cell immunotherapy has yet to be replicated in solid tumors like GBM. A significant impediment of CAR-T immunotherapy in solid tumors is poor exposure of T cells to tumor antigens resulting in suboptimal CAR-T cell activation, which ultimately fails to induce a robust anti-tumor immune response. Costimulatory moieties in advanced-generation CARs, along with additional IL2 therapy has been shown to be insufficient to overcome this hurdle and have its cytotoxic limitations. GSK3 is constitutively active in naïve T cells and is transiently in

Chronic oral administration of ibrutinib prevents long-term memory deficits and reduces AD pathology and neuroinflammatory responses in a mouse model of AD.

We previously demonstrated that ibrutinib has therapeutic efficacy against AD pathologies when injected intraperitoneally at a lower dosage (10 mg/kg, daily for 2 weeks) or orally at a higher dosage (30 mg/kg, daily for 1 month) in AD mice models. However, the effect of chronic lower dose of ibrutinib by oral administration on AD pathologies has not been investigated yet. Therefore, we investigated whether long-term oral administration of ibrutinib at a lower dose (1 or 10 mg/kg, daily for 5 months) on AD pathology and in vivo toxicity in 5xFAD mice. We found ibrutinib enhanced cognitive funct

Postnatal exposure to chlorpyrifos produces long-term effects on spatial memory and the cholinergic system in mice in a sex- and APOE genotype-dependent manner.

Organophosphorus pesticides - and in particular chlorpyrifos (CPF) - are extensively used worldwide. They mainly exert their toxicity by targeting the cholinergic system. Several studies suggested that the gene coding for apolipoprotein E (apoE), which is a risk factor for several diseases, can also confer different vulnerability to toxic insults. This study was aimed at assessing the long-term effects of postnatal exposure to CPF on learning and memory as well as the expression levels of several genes involved in cholinergic neurotransmission in mice. Both male and female apoE4-TR and C57BL/6

Study of avidity of antigen-specific antibody as a means of understanding development of long-term immunological memory after Vibrio cholerae O1 infection.

The avidity of antibodies to specific antigens and the relationship of avidity to memory B cell responses to these antigens have not been studied in patients with cholera or those receiving oral cholera vaccines. We measured the avidity of antibodies to cholera toxin B subunit (CTB) and Vibrio cholerae O1 lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in Bangladeshi adult cholera patients (n = 30), as well as vaccinees (n = 30) after administration of two doses of a killed oral cholera vaccine. We assessed antibody and memory B cell responses at the acute stage in patients or prior to vaccination in vaccinees and t

The amyloid-beta25-35 injection into the CA1 region of the neonatal rat hippocampus impairs the long-term memory because of an increase of nitric oxide.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by the amyloid-beta (Abeta) aggregation but it is unclear when this process begins. Previously, we showed that amyloid-beta(25-35) (Abeta(25-35)) increases the nitric oxide (NO) pathways and causes neurodegenerative effects in rats. The excessive increase of NO during brain development can promote a persistent oxidative stress, but the role of the Abeta(25-35) in the neonatal age and its effects over the long term is unclear. Our aim was to evaluate if the Abeta(25-35) injection on postnatal day 7 causes loss in spatial memory by NO pathways in adult r
