The reductive dehalogenation of halothane leading to 2-chloro-1,1,1-trifluoroethane (CTE) and 2-chloro-1,1-difluoroethylene (CDE) has been investigated in vitro using at liver microsomes under anaerobic conditions. The stimulation of NADPH oxidation by halothane as well as the formation of the products were dependent upon cytochrome P450 as indicated by their CO and metyrapone inhibition. Up to one-third of subjects who have had bilateral adrenalectomy for treatment of Cushing's disease will develop Nelson's syndrome. To examine the value of pre-operative ACTH assays in predicting outcome, we have studied fifteen cases of Cushing's disease treated by bilateral adrenalectomy and pituitary irradiation. SUMMARY: In this case report, we describe the management of a patient who was admitted with an ectopic ACTH syndrome during the COVID pandemic with new-onset type 2 diabetes, neutrophilia and unexplained hypokalaemia. In human infants and newborn rats, white light at the intensity used to treat hyperbilirubinemia lowers serum calcium concentration. Occipital shielding or (in newborn rats) exogenous melatonin prevents this effect. Propranolol, by inhibiting melatonin synthesis, also causes hypocalcemia, which is preventable by melatonin. We investigated the correlation between restraint stress-induced alteration of antibody responses and adrenal hormones. Adrenalectomy (Adx) blocked both the suppression of antibody response against T cell-dependent (TD) antigen and the enhancement of that against T cell-independent (TI) antigen in stressed mice.
