Nanostructured La(Sr)CrO3 (LSC) powders was prepared through glycine-nitrate gel combustion process. It was shown for the first time that the use of relatively inexpensive CrO3 as a starting material for chromium has a potential for the bulk preparation of sinter-active LSC powder. Inorganic storage granules have long been recognized in bacterial and eukaryotic cells but were only recently identified in archaeal cells. Jirds (Meriones unguiculatus) were vaccinated with irradiated L3 third-stage larvae (L3) of Acanthocheilonema viteae, and the time required for killing of the challenge L3 was determined. A case of cutaneous leishmaniasis diagnosed by fine-needle aspiration biopsy is presented. The cytologic smears revealed lymphocytes, plasma cells, and macrophages. Large numbers of Leishmania organisms were present within the macrophages and in the intercellular spaces. Part of the material was used for a microbiologic culture, which revealed large numbers of promastigotes. These were studied by light, transmission, and scanning electron microscopy.
