Breast cancer remains one of the leading causes of death among women worldwide. One major challenge in early and accurate detection is breast density. High breast density not only obscures tumors on current imaging modalities, making them harder to identify, but also significantly increases the likelihood of diagnostic errors, both by medical professionals and automated detection systems. As a result, accurately classifying the breast density is crucial, and can lead to better, more tailored screening approaches and reduce the chances of error. This is especially critical for younger women, wh

OBJECTIVE: Altered myocardial fiber arrangement is a hallmark feature in the early stages of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). However, current … lyzes thermoacoustic signals generated by stimulating the myocardium with linearly polarized pulsed microwaves from four orthogonal directions, enabling the assessment of its spatial microstructure. To mitigate motion artifacts induced by cardiac contraction, the system acquires thermoacoustic images at a frame rate of 100 Hz. The end-diastolic phase, corres …

Osteosarcoma (OS) is an aggressive malignant tumor with high recurrence and metastatic potential, primarily affecting adolescents. Despite the standard clinical "sandwich" treatment regimen, patient survival rates have remained stagnant. Microwave ablation (MWA), known for its rapid heating and strong tissue penetration, has emerged as a viable therapeutic strategy for bone tumors. However, MWA poses challenges, particularly the potential for iatrogenic damage to adjacent healthy tissues and the concern that inappropriate energy delivery parameters may paradoxically stimulate neoplastic progre

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have emerged as a promising tool for regenerative medicine due to their multipotency and immunomodulatory properties. According to recent research, exposing MSCs to super-low-intensity microwave radiation can have a significant impact on how they behave and operate. This review provides an overview of the most recent studies on the effects of microwave radiation on MSCs with power densities that are much below thermal values. Studies repeatedly show that non-thermal mechanisms affecting calcium signaling, membrane transport, mitochondrial activity, along ion chann

Phenolic acids are important secondary metabolites in wheat, existing in free, conjugated, and bound forms. Traditional extraction methods use organic solvents like ethanol and acetone and are labor-intensive procedures. This study examined the extraction of phenolic acids from wheat using microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) with water as the green extractant. The extraction of phenolic acids was performed on whole grain flour and on wheat kernels. MAE conditions were solvent type (water vs. 80% (v/v) ethanol), temperature (140, 160, 170, and 180°C), and extraction time (2, 5, 10, and 15 min).

Grape pomace is a suitable substrate for bioethanol production as it contains carbohydrates and various amino, but its high lignin content hinders productivity. Microwave-assisted alkaline pretreatment was performed in this study to selectively remove the lignin and the pretreatment conditions (alkaline concentration, temperature, and reaction time) were optimized by the response surface method (RSM). NaOH concentration and temperature were determined to be factors that significantly impact the subsequent bioethanol production, while reaction time showed less impact. The highest delignificatio

Microwave medical imaging (MMI) has significant potential for stroke imaging due to its unique portability and timeliness, and is therefore highly valued by researchers. This paper proposes an imaging-process-informed generative strategy (IPIGS) that addresses the challenges posed by nonlinearity in the imaging process, thereby generating more intuitive and diagnosis-friendly microwave medical images. Aiming at the limitations of traditional imaging methods (e.g., distorted Born iterative method, DBIM), namely the blurry imaging background and the confusion of stroke areas, we first attribute

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of computed tomography (CT)-guided percutaneous microwave ablation (MWA) of liver hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) lesions in patients with pre-existing diuretic-resistant ascites. There is logical hesitation among clinicians to pursue MWA in these decompensated patients for fear of worsening an already bleak prognosis, but there is limited evidence to justify this behavior.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective review of HCC treated with percutaneous MWA at a single center was performed. 18 patients who

The developed near-field microwave diagnostics of dynamical lung tomography provide information about variations of air and blood content depth structure in the processes of breathing and heart beating that are unattainable for other available methods. The method of dynamical pulse 1D tomography (profiling) is based on solving the corresponding nonlinear ill-posed inverse problem in the extremely complicated case of the strongly absorbing frequency-dispersive layered medium with the dual regularization method-a new Lagrange approach in the theory of ill-posed problems. This method has been rea
