Development of a Nursing Practice Framework for 5G-Enabled Cross-Regional Remote Surgery.

OBJECTIVE: Established perioperative and nursing theories provide foundations for patient safety, adaptation, caring, communication, and professional practice. This study aimed to develop a context-specific operational framework that applies and specifies these concepts for 5G-enabled cross-regional remote surgery, particularly in relation to technology-mediated care, distributed collaboration, and adaptive nursing capacity. METHODS: This mixed-methods study combined a systematic literature review (four databases; topic search, January 2000-July 2025; foundational theory searches unrestricted

The Relationship Between Transition Shock and Nursing Informatics Competency in Nursing Interns: A Moderated Mediation Model of Psychological Empowerment and Teaching Hospital Grade.

BACKGROUND: From academic study at school to clinical practice, changes in the environment, social role, and learning objectives can lead student nurses to experience varying degrees of transition shock. In today's digitally driven healthcare environment, where information literacy is a core competency, this transition shock may seriously hinder interns' nursing informatics competency. However, the exact mechanism by which transition shock impacts the interns' nursing informatics competency remains underexplored. AIM: To explore the effects of transition shock on the nursing informatics compe

Tag team simulation: An innovative approach for promoting active engagement of participants and observers during group simulations.

Active participation in immersive simulation experiences can result in technical and non-technical skill enhancement. However, when simulations are conducted in large groups, maintaining the interest of observers so that they do not disengage from the learning experience can be challenging. We implemented Tag Team Simulation with the aim of ensuring that both participants and observers had active and integral roles in the simulation. In this paper we outline the features of this innovative approach and provide an example of its application to a pain simulation. Evaluation was conducted using t

Quality of life among undergraduate nursing students in Palestine: A Heideggerian phenomenological study.

BACKGROUND: Quality of life (QoL) influences nursing students' academic engagement, professional development, and overall well-being. In conflict-affected regions, like Palestine, sociopolitical instability further influences how QoL is lived and interpreted. Although growing attention to nursing students' well-being, little qualitative research has explored the lived meaning of QoL among Palestinian nursing students. AIM: To explore undergraduate nursing students' lived experiences of QoL in Palestine, and to identify key factors shaping these experiences. DESIGN: A qualitative study inform

Adult student nurses' experiences of encountering perceived child abuse or neglect during their community placement: Implications for nurse education.

INTRODUCTION: While child nursing students may expect to encounter child abuse and neglect and assume a safeguarding role when they qualify, those undertaking adult nursing courses may not expect to come into contact with children and may be even less likely to expect to encounter child abuse or neglect. This paper presents the findings of an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) study. Students learn through experience and reflection and Mezirow's Transformational Learning Theory (TLT) was used to explain the various ways in which nine adult nursing students attempted to make sense o

Calcium channel blockers.

Calcium channel blockers are widely used in the treatment of ischemic heart disease, hypertension, and supraventricular tachycardia. The prototype agents, verapamil, nifedipine, and diltiazem, represent three classes of calcium channel blockers, each of which has different pharmacologic effects. Nifedipine and the other dihydropyridines primarily are vasodilators and have no clinical effects on cardiac conduction or contractility. Diltiazem and verapamil also are vasodilators, but they possess, to varying degrees, negative inotropic, chronotropic, and dromotropic effects. Side effects of these

The effectiveness of combined training model in perioperative nursing for implant-based breast reconstruction: a quasi-experimental study.

BACKGROUND: Implant-based breast reconstruction demonstrates notable psychological benefits, particularly in enhancing postoperative emotional well-being and self-perception among breast cancer survivors. However, its perioperative nursing process remains inconsistent, often relying on subjective clinical experience. There is a need for a standardized, evidence-based nursing protocol supported by effective training strategies to improve patient outcomes. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to develop and implement a perioperative nursing protocol for implant-based breast reconstruction, supported by …

The Journey Towards Withdrawal: Nurses' Experiences of End-of-Life Decisions in Cardiothoracic Intensive Care.

BACKGROUND: End-of-life (EOL) decision-making in intensive care units (ICUs) is ethically demanding. Nurses are often excluded from this process despite their continuous bedside presence. Surgical units, particularly cardiothoracic ICUs, are described as more inclined to pursue aggressive treatment, yet little is known about how nurses in these specialised settings experience EOL decision-making. AIM: The study aimed to illuminate how nurses in the cardiothoracic ICU experience EOL decision-making and the withdrawal of intensive care. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive design was used. Twelv
