Oncologists' knowledge, attitudes and needs about artificial intelligence in clinical oncology in Luxembourg in 2026: a national cross-sectional survey (AICO study).

INTRODUCTION: Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly entering the field of medical oncology. Clinician literacy, ethical awareness, and governance structures are prerequisites for safe implementation, yet real-world data on adoption, training and ethical perceptions from small European healthcare systems remain scarce. METHODS: We conducted an anonymous national cross-sectional online survey among all practicing physicians (medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, haematologist-oncologists) and oncology residents in Luxembourg (n = 42 eligible) between January and February 2026. The instr…

Rectal Leiomyosarcoma Treated With Surgery and Adjuvant Radiotherapy: A Case Report With a Brief Review of Radiotherapy Techniques From a Radiation Oncologist's Perspective.

We report the case of a 58-year-old male who presented with diarrhea, fever, and weight loss, and was ultimately diagnosed with rectal leiomyosarcoma (LMS). During colonoscopy, a 4 cm polypoid mass was observed 6 cm above the anal verge, with characteristics suggestive of a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). Colorectal magnetic resonance imaging showed about a 4.1 x 3.3 x 3.3 cm-sized pedunculated mass in the mid-rectum with two possible pathologic lymph nodes. A pathological review of colonoscopic biopsy revealed atypical spindle cell proliferation, suggestive of GIST. Based on this, the

Are Urologists and/or Radiation Oncologists Biased when Reporting of Advantages and Disadvantages of Surgery versus Radiation in Consultations for Early-Stage Prostate Cancer?

BACKGROUND: Treatment choice for early-stage prostate cancer (PC) is strongly influenced by the counseling physician's specialty. Whether a physician's specialty biases how treatment advantages and disadvantages are presented in consultations is unclear. To investigate this, we analyzed content discussed by urologists and radiation oncologists when comparing radical prostatectomy and radiation therapy in PC consultations. METHODS: Consultations of 39 men with nonmetastatic PC across 6 urologists and radiation oncologists were recorded and transcribed. Analysts thematically characterized state…

Hematologist/oncologist disease-specific expertise and survival: lessons from chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)/small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL).

BACKGROUND: The impact of physicians' disease-specific expertise on patient outcome is unknown. Although previous studies suggest a survival advantage for cancer patients cared for at high-volume centers, these observations may simply reflect referral bias or better access to advanced technologies, clinical trials, and multidisciplinary support at large centers. METHODS: We evaluated time to first treatment (TTFT) and overall survival (OS) of patients with newly diagnosed chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma (CLL) at a single academic center based on whether they were cared
