Root resorption, an unwanted sequela of orthodontic treatment, has received much attention in the recent past. This is clearly evident from the enormous amount of literature published regarding this single iatrogenic issue. These research works should provide practitioners with great insight into the clinical, histologic, therapeutic, predictive, and genetic aspects as well as the molecular basis of the resorptive process. Yet the scientific community reading these reports is left with confounding questions requiring a proper organization of the published literature. This review is aimed at an

The aim of this article is to present the personal experience on the treatment of 2 groups of patients presenting the same problem: the recovery of teeth 13 and 23 in the dental arch. The 1(st) group consists of adult patients aged approximately 20-28 years with a retained position of the permanent canines and permanence of the respective deciduous teeth in the dental arch. In the 2(nd) group, the loss of the deciduous teeth had not been followed by the physiological eruption of the permanent teeth. The authors' aim is to demonstrate that similar orthodontic treatments can represent valid solu

Apical root resorption is a frequent phenomenon observed in pre-surgical orthodontic; the reason is double: we deal with adult patients and we often move the teeth in the opposite direction compared to the position obtained in previous inefficacious orthodontic treatments. Notwithstanding the amount of apical root resorption we couldn't record an hyper-mobility of the teeth and a long term evaluation of occlusal stability didn't show any significant change.

In the clinical context, the width of the attached gingiva is established by substracting the sulcus depth from the width of the keratinized gingiva. Summarizing all factors, it becomes clear that control of marginal inflammation appears to be the most important key to limiting--and possibly reversing--an otherwise progressive recession. A nonsurgical approach should be the clinician's first choice.

An attempt to assess the numerical grading of success with regard to the diagnosis, therapy and prognosis of anomalies of tooth alignment and occlusal position. Classifications according to Korkhaus, Angle and Eismann were evaluated using the original and final models of 42 patients who had been very co-operative. The importance and applicability in therapy and prognosis are assessed.

1. Periodontosis occurs in the same age group in which orthodontic therapy is most often done. It is a periodontal disease which in the early stages may show little or no gingival inflammation and is easily overlooked unless one is aware of the existence of this condition and looks for it. 2. Since malocclusions are common in adolescents, it is reasonable to expect that some adolescents with malocclusions will also develop periodontosis. 3. Periodontosis may have its onset during active orthodontic treatment. 4. Orthodontists, should routinely examine all of their patients, using adequate roen

BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to explore and compare patient's experience with the use of a removable functional appliance or fixed orthodontic appliance and its influence on oral health-related quality of life.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This clinical trial included 81 participants having Class II Division 1 and age ranging between 10 and 16 years. The participants were included in any of a three equal groups according to the set inclusion and exclusion criteria; Group 1: patients treated with a Twin-Block functional appliance; Group 2: patients treated with a fixed orthodontic appl

UNLABELLED: Treatments without tooth extractions have become more popular over the last two decades. In this context, expansion of the maxillary arch is an interesting treatment option for cases in which space is required and other factors not favoring extractions (such as the facial profile) are present. According to several authors, this posterior expansion can be obtained using a system comprising self-ligating brackets and superelastic nickel-titanium arches. The present article aims to report a case of a young patient with Class II, Division 2 malocclusion, with impacted upper canines and

In recent years, invisible orthodontics has been one of the concerns of both orthodontists and patients. As two types of invisible orthodontics, clear aligners fit for cases that have high demand for living quality, need distalization of molars or intrusion of incisors, suffer from severe periodontitis, or that have non-abundant time for visits. While customized lingual appliances fit for cases that have high demand for aesthetics, have deep overbite or complex malocclusion, need maxillary expansion or retraction of incisors, or that have low compliance and good economic conditions. Based on a

This review article describes the basics and clinical applications of skeletal anchorage in orthodontics, namely: areas of indication, anchorage devices, insertion areas, indications, potential complications, and their use in growing patients. The areas for skeletal anchorage include orthodontic-prosthetic anchorage, orthodontic anchorage, and skeletal anchorage in orthopedic therapy procedures. The anchorage devices currently available are: prosthetic implants, mini screws, palatal implants, onplants, bone anchors, zygoma wires and skeletally-supported distractors. The insertion areas describ
