BACKGROUND: Prehospital anesthesia may lead to circulatory collapse after severe hemorrhage. It is possible that permissive hypoventilation, refraining from tracheal intubation and accepting spontaneous ventilation, decreases this risk, but it is not known if oxygen delivery can be maintained. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the outcome in patients with severe adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) managed with limitation of peak inspiratory pressure to 30 to 40 cm H2O, low tidal volumes (4 to 7 mL/kg), spontaneous breathing using synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation from the start of ventilation, and permissive hypercapnia without the use of bicarbonate to buffer acidosis. Exposure of adipose tissue fragments to dexamethasone leads to enhanced lipolytic and cyclic AMP responses of isolated fat cells to isoproterenol. The 2009 pandemic influenza A virus outbreak led to the systematic use of the neuraminidase (NA) inhibitor oseltamivir (OST). Consequently, OST-resistant strains, carrying the mutation H275Y, emerged in the years after the pandemics, with a prevalence of 1-2%. Currently, OST-resistant strains have been found in community settings, in untreated individuals. To spread in community settings, H275Y mutants must contain additional mutations, collectively called permissive mutations. We display the permissive mutations in NA of OST-resistant A(H1N1)pdm09 virus found in Brazilian community settings.

The aim of this work was to investigate the role of cytosolic free calcium ([Ca(2+)]c) in the stimulation of GLUT1 by metabolic stress and insulin.
