Surgical correction of foot deformities in Charcot-Marie-Tooth-disease: effects on personal goals and gait capacity.

Charcot Marie Tooth disease (CMT) is the most common group of inherited muscular disorders, resulting in foot deformities. Foot and ankle surgical procedures are frequently performed to improve function in persons with CMT. Understanding the patients' personal goals is crucial for effective counselling. However, there is limited evidence regarding the extent to which personal goals are achieved through surgery, as well as the impact of surgery on balance and gait capacity. A prospective cohort study was conducted in 28 persons with CMT who underwent surgery. A wide range of personal goals was

Female Partners of Men With Peyronie's Disease Have Impaired Sexual Function, Satisfaction, and Mood, While Degree of Sexual Interference Is Associated With Worse Outcomes.

INTRODUCTION: Peyronie's disease (PD) causes penile deformity and can result in sexual dysfunction and psychological distress. Currently, nothing is known about the psychosexual impact on the partners of men with PD. Research carried out on the partners of men with other chronic illnesses suggests that the partners of men with PD might have increased rates of sexual dysfunction and decreased sexual satisfaction. AIMS: To examine (i) sexual functioning, sexual satisfaction, negative affect, and relationship satisfaction of men with PD and their female partners and (ii) the effect of male-perce

It's Not What You Do, it's Why: Motives and Outcomes of Technology-Mediated Sexual Interactions in Romantic Relationships.

Technology-mediated sexual interactions (TMSIs) are interpersonal exchanges of self-created, sexual material via communication technology. We used the approach-avoidance motivational framework to assess the extent to which TMSI motives were associated with related outcomes. We aimed to (i) develop a construct-valid scale to measure people's approach and avoidance TMSI motives with a romantic partner, and (ii) examine the extent to which people's TMSI motives were associated with sexual, relational, and individual outcomes. In Study One, participants (N = 269) completed measures of TMSI motives

Familial contribution to adolescent subjective well-being.

The purpose of this study was to obtain a more complete understanding of which familial factors contribute to adolescent satisfaction and ill-being, the latter term originally developed by Alexander Grob. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 19 non-clinical adolescents from the 7th and 9th grades. The data were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Six themes concerning satisfaction arose from the analysis. Teenagers described familial contribution to their satisfaction in terms of experiences of a comfortable home, emotionally warm atmosphere, open communication, familial invo

Beyond symptom improvement: transdiagnostic and disorder-specific ways to assess functional and quality of life outcomes across mental disorders in adults.

Improving meaningful outcomes is the main goal of clinical care for mental disorders. Traditionally, the focus in clinical research and practice has been on outcome domains that refer to symptom severity or service use (e.g., hospitalization), relate to categorical diagnoses, and favour clinician-rated measures. More recently, self-rated and dimensional as well as transdiagnostic outcome domains have gained traction, and functioning, quality of life and well-being/life satisfaction, along with the construct of personal recovery, have become a stronger focus. These key multidimensional outcome

Connected and confined: memories of digital experiences in relation to autonomy, competence, and relatedness during the COVID-19 pandemic.

UNLABELLED: The COVID-19 pandemic drove rapid digital transformation and disrupted the ways people could meet their basic psychological needs of autonomy, relatedness and competence. This study explored how people across six European countries (the UK, Poland, Czechia, Germany, Switzerland and Spain) recalled the role of digital technology (DT) in fulfilling these needs. 148 semi-structured interviews were conducted after the pandemic and were analysed using thematic analysis. The analysis showed that DTs were recalled as both supporting and frustrating the satisfaction of all three psychologi

Life Satisfaction and Negative Affect Among Trans Men, Trans Women, and Nonbinary Individuals in a U.S. National Sample.

Yet, there is limited research using a national sample and comparing trans women, trans men, and nonbinary individuals. This study examined the impact of social support, social belonging, transgender connectedness, and discrimination on trans and nonbinary individuals' life satisfaction and negative affec

Secondary health conditions and social role satisfaction in adults with long-term physical disability.

OBJECTIVE: Individuals living with physical disability due to early acquired or traumatic conditions often experience a range of psychological and physical health problems that are associated with their condition but are not directly caused by it. Known as "secondary health conditions," these problems can interact with existing functional limitations and other medical comorbidities to limit social participation. The current study assessed the concurrent and longitudinal associations between secondary health conditions, chronic medical comorbidities, and functional limitations, with a PROMIS® m

Assessing support networks: stability and evidence for convergent and divergent validity.

Data on important methodological problems in assessing support networks is presented. Stability (over 1 year) and construct validity were examined in two groups of mothers of preschool children. One group of mothers had children with a physical handicap (n = 25); the other group had normally developing children (n = 44). When their children were 4 years of age and again at 5 years of age, mothers' support networks were assessed with the Pattison Psychosocial Kinship Inventory (a semistructured interview) and a log diary. Results indicated considerable stability in mothers' support networks ove

Shifting the Focus: A Pilot Study on the Effects of Positive Body Exposure on Body Satisfaction, Body Attitude, Eating Pathology and Depressive Symptoms in Female Patients with Eating Disorders.

One of the most commonly used techniques for the treatment of body image problems in eating disorders (ED) is body exposure (BE). However, evidence of its effectiveness in clinical populations is scarce. In the Positive Body Experience (PBE) protocol, the focus of positive BE is on aesthetic, functional and tactile aspects of the body. The current study evaluates the outcomes of positive BE with regard to changes in attitudinal body image and eating pathology, as well as the factors that influence these changes, in a sample of 84 adult female patients with different EDs who did not receive any

The aims of this study were to determine whether facial asymmetry influences the satisfaction of rhinoplasty patients and whether there is a difference in postoperative happiness between patients with and without facial asymmetry. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this retrospective study, we reviewed the charts and photographs of patients who underwe

Physical health--a cluster randomized controlled lifestyle intervention among persons with a psychiatric disability and their staff.

The objective was to explore the impact on physical health of a lifestyle programme among persons with psychiatric disabilities, and their caregivers. Their satisfaction with the intervention was also assessed. Somatic comorbidity and an increased mortality related to the lifestyle among persons with psychiatric disabilities are well known. Few randomized controlled trials have been aimed specifically at lifestyle issues among persons with a psychiatric disability. This trial includes clients with psychiatric disabilities living in supported housing and their staff. Forty-one persons with a DS
