OBJECTIVE: To study the scavenging effects of Lu-Duo-Wei, thiourea, superoxide dismutase, and sodium azide on carbon disulfide-induced generation of hydroxyl radicals.
METHODS: Phenanthroline-CuSO(4)-Vit C-H(2)O(2) chemiluminescence system (PHEN system) containing alcohol was established to probe the influence of various concentrations of carbon disulfide on hydroxyl radicals emission intensity and the scavenging effects of Lu-Duo-Wei and other antioxidants on carbon disulfide-induced hydroxyl radicals were observed.

The copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidation of N-(2-arylacetyl)-1,3-oxazolidin-2-ones to the corresponding 2-oxo derivatives is described. The transformation is promoted by copper(II) acetate and 1,10-phenanthroline in DMSO at 30 °C and provides a wide range of 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds under mild reaction conditions. By means of a biological collagenase assay we estimated collagenolytic activity of the vesicular fluid of patients with epidermolysis bullosa hereditaria dystrophica. All the 5 examined patients showed increased collagenolysis. Inhibition studies were performed applying ethylendiaminetetraacetate inhibition 11,15%, normal human serum in 12.15% (means). o-Phenanthroline as well as erythromycine in an aequimolar ratio stopped the collagenolytic activity completely in the 5 specimen. The synthesis and photophysical properties of the complex [Fe(phen)(2)(TTF-dppz)](2+) (TTF-dppz = 4',5'-bis-(propylthio)tetrathiafulvenyl[i]dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) are described. The direct reactions of a diverse range of N-acyl-1,3-oxazolidin-2-ones with TEMPO, catalyzed by copper(II) acetate and 4,7-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline without the need for any base, are herein described. The title compound, [Cd(2)(C(2)H(3)O(2))(4)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], consists of dimeric units built up around a crystallographic symmetry centre.
