This article reviews critically studies that describe changes occurring in the female genital tract and pelvic musculature from sexual reflexes activated by stimuli that mimic coitus or induced by sexual arousal. The human startle response is modulated by affective states. The startle response is facilitated in unpleasant, aversive context, such as fear, and reduced during pleasure. This association can be explored by simple technical methods. The modulation of startle is found also in animal.
