Skin exerts a number of essential protective functions ensuring homeostasis of the whole body. In the present review barrier function of skin and its expression of antimicrobial peptides are discussed. Barrier function is provided by the dynamic stratum corneum structure composed of lipids and corneocytes. Stratum corneum is a conditio sine qua non for terrestrial life. Impairment of barrier function can be due to injury and inflammatory skin diseases. Postirradiation morphea is an uncommon entity that has been mostly described in women with breast cancer. The objectives of this study were to describe how the scientific production presents the use ofphenytoinas a healing agent and to discuss its applicability in wounds. INTRODUCTION: Cases of radiation recall may be experienced by radiotherapy patients, which are named as radiodermitis. To gradate it the RTOG (Radiation Therapy Oncology Group) scale is the most used. Due to the complexity on the management of radiotherapy, a protocol based on the evidence is stablished to prevent and treat it.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Bibliographic revision of main data bases from last six years.
