Solubility evaluation of different root canal sealing materials.

AIM: To evaluate the solubility of five different root canal sealers (AH Plus Jet, RealSeal SE, MTA Fillapex, Tubli-Seal, and Acroseal) in chloroform, eucalyptol and Endosolv-E solvents. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ninety root canal sealer samples were prepared and then divided into three groups for immersion in a solvent for 2, 5 or 10 minutes. The mean values of the root canal sealers' dissolution in the solvents were obtained by the difference between the preimmersion original weight and the post-immersion weight on a digital analytical scale. Data were statistically analyzed by a Kruskal-Walli

Nonsurgical endodontic management using MTA for perforative defect of internal root resorption: report of a long term follow-up.

Internal root resorption is an uncommon lesion following a dental injury. The use of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is a conservative approach to repair lesions with periodontal communication. This case report presents a long-term follow-up of a nonsurgical endodontic management using MTA for perforative defect of internal root resorption. During the endodontic treatment, the granulation tissue was removed and the root canal prepared. Calcium hydroxide was placed as a temporary dressing for 30 days. After this period, the root canal space and the perforation defect were filled with MTA. The

Retreatment efficacy 3 months after obturation using glass ionomer cement, zinc oxide-eugenol, and epoxy resin sealers.

The efficacy of ultrasonic retreatment, 3 months after obturation, in conjunction with Ketac-Endo, Roth's 801, and AH26 sealers was evaluated. Seventy-two root canals were prepared and obturated with gutta-percha and one of the sealers mentioned above. After 90 days, the canals were retreated by an ultrasonic technique and the retreatment time was recorded. The roots were split and the amount of debris that remained on the canal walls in three separate levels was scored. Compared by one-way and two-way analysis of variance, the mean scores of remaining debris at the different canal levels for

Effects of Nd:YAG laser on the permeability of root canal wall dentin.

The effects of a thermally cooled pulsed Nd:YAG laser on the permeability and structural appearance of the root canal wall were investigated in vitro. Twenty specimens of freshly extracted human teeth were prepared by conventional methods. The teeth were randomly divided into two groups. Group 1 teeth were prepared conventionally but not lased. Group 2 specimens received three 15-s laser exposures totaling 45 s duration within the root canal via optical fiber delivery. Laser parameters were set at 5 W, 50 Hz, using a simultaneous air/water coolant spray of 10 psi air and 2 psi water. The exter

[Repair of perirradicular tissues in non-surgical endodontic treatment. A review].

INTRODUCTION: Non-surgical endodontic treatment aims to prevent apical periodontitis, achieved with the disinfection of the root canal system. Additionally, there are pathologies where the toxic content of the canal goes to the periradicular tissues, causing osteolysis or lesions of the bone tissue that are radiographically observed as radiolucent images. When the endodontic treatment is successful, the repair of these lesions occurs over time. AIM: To analyze the periradicular repair process of non-surgical endodontic treatment and the factors that affect it. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An elect

Finite Element Analysis of Stress Distribution in Root Canals When Using a Variety of Post Systems Instrumented with Different Rotary Systems.

It is very important for clinicians to provide restorative treatments that provide durability for endodontically treated teeth. Trauma, occlusal premature contact, and features of teeth are some of the issues that can cause vertical root fractures (VRFs) in root canal-treated teeth. The aim of this 3-D study was to compare stress distribution on mandibular premolar teeth when using a variety of post designs instrumented with different rotary systems. Six mandibular premolar teeth were instrumented with the following tools: ProTaper Next, WaveOne (WO), Reciproc (R), ReciprocBlue (RB), F6-Skytap

The accuracy of using guided endodontics in access cavity preparation and the temperature changes of root surface: An in vitro study.

BACKGROUND: Guided endodontics is a successful technique that has been gradually applied to endodontic therapy in recent years without being affected by the operator's experience. However, the guided bur produces excessive heat during continuous rotation and friction with root canal walls, it is not clear whether the degree of temperature increase may lead to the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone damage. METHODS: A total of 58 teeth were used, of which 40 teeth were not grouped, all used to evaluate the accuracy. 40 single-rooted premolars were scanned using CBCT and an intra-oral scanne

A critical analysis of research methods and experimental models to study dentinal microcracks.

The purpose of this narrative review was to discuss the scientific milestones that led to the current understanding of the root dentinal microcrack phenomenon based on the interplay between the usage of micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) as an analytical tool alongside a close-to-mouth experimental model. In 2009, reports on the development of dentinal microcracks in extracted teeth after root canal preparation triggered an awareness of the potential for vertical root fractures (VRFs) of endodontically treated teeth could be developed from defects created by the mechanical stress of nickel-t…
