Cervical myeloid sarcoma as an initial clinical manifestation: Four case reports.

BACKGROUND: Cervical myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare hematological malignancy characterized by the formation of extramedullary soft tissue masses in the cervical region. Due to its uncommon presentation in the female reproductive system, cervical MS poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Consequently, there is a pressing need for more research and clinical experience to better understand, diagnose, and manage this condition effectively. CASE SUMMARY: This report details four cases, the diagnostic process, treatment strategy, and outcomes, discussing cervical MS as an initial

Kaposi's sarcoma associated with chronic myeloid leukemia and imatinib mesylate therapy.

Kaposi's sarcoma is associated with immunosuppression and human herpesvirus 8 infection, while rarely described in myeloid malignancies. Here, we illustrate a rare case of chronic myeloid leukemia treated with imatinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, who developed a human herpesvirus 8-related Kaposi's sarcoma.

Isolated Myeloid Sarcoma and Intracardiac Thrombus Resulting in Superior Mediastinal Syndrome.

Superior mediastinal syndrome (SMS) is a relatively common emergency in the practice of Pediatric Oncology. It typically results from the compression of large airways and superior vena cava by a swiftly growing mass. T-lineage acute lymphoblastic leukemia or lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and germ cell tumor are the common etiologies of SMS in children. Occasionally, SMS can be an unexpected presentation of less common childhood cancers and a surprise for the diagnostic and treating teams. The present paper reports the diagnostic and therapeutic challenge of managing a 9-y-old boy with SMS resulting

Rare presentation of isolated bilateral testicular myeloid sarcoma: A case report.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) of the testis is a rare soft tissue tumour which can herald the development of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). The diagnosis of MS requires a high degree of suspicion as appropriate immunohistochemical staining must be performed to yield an early diagnosis. Whilst there is no consensus on treatment on MS involving the testis, most patients undergo orchidectomy and systemic chemotherapy, with or without radiation therapy. Early and aggressive treatment is key to achieving remission. This case report describes a patient with bilateral testicular MS which heralded the developm

Myeloid Sarcoma: Diagnostic and Treatment Tools from a Monocentric Retrospective Experience.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a very rare disease in both adults and children. Prognosis is poor in adults; in the pediatric age, the prognostic impact of extramedullary disease is controversial. Systemic therapy represents the mainstay of treatment even in isolated MS, but a comparison between different induction regimens is very limited in the literature. To date, it is still not clear if induction treatment should differ from that of other acute myeloid leukemias and stem cell transplant is considered for consolidation in both leukemic patients and in those with isolated disease. Our study descri

Isolated myeloid sarcoma presenting with small bowel obstruction: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a solid tumor consisting of myeloid blasts or immature myeloid cells, which are unusual outside the bone marrow. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a rare case of isolated myeloid sarcoma of the small bowel in a 54-year-old man who was admitted to our hospital with repeated symptoms of intestinal obstruction. A small bowel series via an ileus tube revealed severe jejunal obstruction. Computed tomography revealed that the obstruction was likely caused by a jejunal tumor. The patient underwent laparoscopy-assisted partial resection of the jejunum with lymphadenect

Extramedullary Myeloid Sarcoma with Symptoms of Acute Pancreatitis Mimicking Pancreatic Carcinoma.

Extramedullary myeloid sarcomas are extramedullary tumors of immature myeloid cells, often associated with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), or other myeloproliferative diseases. They are usually found in connective/soft tissues, skin, breast and gastrointestinal system. Pancreas is an uncommon site to be involved. We present a case of pancreatic myeloid sarcoma presenting with symptoms of acute pancreatitis including epigastric pain associated with nausea and vomiting, with imaging findings (abdominal CT) suggestive of pancreatic carcinoma, both presenting as hypoa

Isolated Pancreatic Myeloid Sarcoma Associated with t(8;21)/RUNX1-RUNX1T1 Rearrangement.

No valid treatment for isolated myeloid sarcoma (IMS) has yet been established, and no thorough genetic examinations have been performed because of its low incidence and unique manner of development. We herein report a 34-year-old man with pancreatic IMS with t(8;21)/RUNX1-RUNX1T1 rearrangement. He was treated with high-dose cytarabine followed by allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). This is the first report of pancreatic IMS with t(8;21). Positron emission tomography/computed tomography and genetic study are useful for the diagnosis, and allo-HSCT achieved complete

Paraneoplastic autoimmunity associated with testicular myeloid sarcoma and chronic myelomonocytic leukemia.

Myeloid sarcomas are rare extramedullary solid tumors composed of immature myeloid cells. The clinical presentations of these malignant neoplasms are highly variable, ranging from asymptomatic to localized mass effect. Here, we report an unusual case of myeloid sarcoma of the testis found in association with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia where the presenting symptoms were autoimmune pericarditis and migratory arthralgias and myalgias that preceded testicular enlargement by nearly three months. Treatment with both radical orchiectomy and leukemia-directed chemotherapy led to immediate reducti

Isolated recurrence of intracranial and temporal bone myeloid sarcoma--case report.

A 52-year-old man presented with a rare case of isolated recurrence of myeloid sarcoma (MS) manifesting as rapidly growing intracranial and temporal bone masses 5 years after complete remission (CR) of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) (M2 in the French-American-British classification). Magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography of the head revealed enhanced mass lesions on the superior aspect of the right petrous bone and within the right mastoid air cells, extending into the right middle ear cavity without bone destruction. Peripheral blood testing found no evidence of relapse. As the rig

Gastric myeloid sarcoma--a report of two cases addressing diagnostic issues.

Presented herein are two cases of gastric myeloid sarcoma to highlight the diagnostic conundrum and pointers toward accurate diagnosis in such instances. The first case was a 35-year-old man with an ulceronodular mass in the body of stomach. Multiple biopsies were reported as inconclusive chiefly due to the fact that the lamina propria infiltrate was innocuous and failed to mark with CD20 or CD3. Subsequently the patient had extensive disseminated disease which was recognized as myeloid sarcoma but patient succumbed to the disease soon. The second case was a 25-year-old boy who presented with

Myeloid sarcoma: clinicopathologic, cytogenetic, and outcome analysis of 21 adult patients.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a neoplasm of immature granulocytes, monocytes, or both involving any extramedullary site. Twenty one patients with MS at diagnosis who were treated at King Hussein Cancer Center in Jordan were included in this retrospective study with a male to female ratio of 2 : 1. The most common site was the reticuloendothelial system. The most common morphology subtype was M2 (38%) and the most frequent chromosomal abnormality was trisomy 8. Twenty patients received induction chemotherapy; only 14 (70%) achieved complete remission. Median survival time was 24.7 months for the whol

Granulocytic sarcoma of orbit preceding acute myeloid leukaemia: a case report.

A rare case of granulocytic sarcoma of orbit preceding the onset of acute meyloblastic leukaemia is presented. A 7-year-old boy presented with proptosis and no other systemic complaints. The appearance of an enlarged muscle in initial tomographic imaging with a normal peripheral blood picture caused a diagnostic problem. Biopsy suggested a diagnosis of granulocytic sarcoma. Subsequent bone marrow study revealed the diagnosis of acute myeloid leukaemia.

Case Report: CBFA2T3::GLIS2-positive myeloid sarcoma with focal bone marrow involvement mimicking Ewing sarcoma in an infant.

CBFA2T3::GLIS2-positive myeloid neoplasms occur predominantly in infants and can closely mimic pediatric small round cell sarcomas. We describe a 14-month-old boy who presented with left leg pain, an abnormal gait, and a destructive left ischial mass. Tissue biopsy was initially interpreted as an undifferentiated Ewing-like sarcoma. Bone marrow aspiration contained approximately 2% unclassified large cells, while trephine biopsy demonstrated focal tumor infiltration. Marrow tumor cells showed strong CD56 and weak CD61 expression and were positive for WT1, CD43, ERG, CD117, and BCL2. Lysozyme,
