Controlled flight of high-thrust ultralight ion-propelled microrobot with integrated sensing.

Ion wind technology holds potential for the miniaturization of flying microrobots, generating thrust without mechanical moving parts, enabling simplified and light designs free from high-frequency actuators. Nevertheless, two fundamental challenges have limited its practical implementation: insufficient payload capacity and inadequate controllability, particularly in multi-degrees-of-freedom flight. Here, we demonstrated an inertial measurement unit-based closed-loop controlled flight of a light (36.7 mg) ion-propelled microrobot, achieving a thrust-to-weight ratio of 5:1 and 1-h long-enduranc

CO2 Capture: A Comprehensive Review and Bibliometric Analysis of Scalable Materials and Sustainable Solutions.

The greenhouse effect and global warming, driven by the accumulation of pollutants, such as sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and CO2, are primarily caused by the combustion of fossil fuels and volcanic eruptions. These phenomena represent an international crisis that negatively impacts human health and the environment. Several studies have reported novel carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies, promising solutions. Notable methods include chemical absorption using solvents, and the development of functionalized porous materials, such as MCM-41, impregnated with

An insight on microbial degradation of benzo[a]pyrene: current status and advances in research.

Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) is a high molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon produced as a result of incomplete combustion of organic substances. Over the years, the release of BaP in the atmosphere has increased rapidly, risking human lives. BaP can form bonds with DNA leading to the formation of DNA adducts thereby causing cancer. Therefore addressing the problem of its removal from the environment is quite pertinent though it calls for a very cumbersome and tedious process owing to its recalcitrant nature. To resolve such issues many efforts have been made to develop physical and chemica

Evaluation of venous thromboembolism risk assessment models for hospital inpatients: the VTEAM evidence synthesis.

BACKGROUND: Pharmacological prophylaxis during hospital admission can reduce the risk of acquired blood clots (venous thromboembolism) but may cause complications, such as bleeding. Using a risk assessment model to predict the risk of blood clots could facilitate selection of patients for prophylaxis and optimise the balance of benefits, risks and costs. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to identify validated risk assessment models and estimate their prognostic accuracy, evaluate the cost-effectiveness of different strategies for selecting hospitalised patients for prophylaxis, assess the feasibility of u

Telemedicine for antenatal surveillance of high-risk pregnancies with ambulatory and home fetal heart rate monitoring--an update.

Antepartum fetal surveillance is routinely used to assess the risk of fetal death in high-risk pregnancies. Traditionally, testing is performed in the hospital or outpatient clinic by trained medical staff. New equipment is now available that is easy to operate and can be used for self-monitoring of the fetal heart rate (FHR) in the home setting. The tracings are transmitted by modem to a referral center for immediate interpretation by a health provider. The aim of this review was to assess the current data on the application of this new technology with regard to feasibility, access to care, m

Integrating photonics with silicon nanoelectronics for the next generation of systems on a chip.

Electronic and photonic technologies have transformed our lives-from computing and mobile devices, to information technology and the internet. Our future demands in these fields require innovation in each technology separately, but also depend on our ability to harness their complementary physics through integrated solutions1,2. This goal is hindered by the fact that most silicon nanotechnologies-which enable our processors, computer memory, communications chips and image sensors-rely on bulk silicon substrates, a cost-effective solution with an abundant supply chain, but with substantial limi

Polylactide, Processed by a Foaming Method Using Compressed Freon R134a, for Tissue Engineering.

Fabricating polymeric scaffolds using cost-effective manufacturing processes is still challenging. Gas foaming techniques using supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) have attracted attention for producing synthetic polymer matrices; however, the high-pressure requirements are often a technological barrier for its widespread use. Compressed 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane, known as Freon R134a, offers advantages over CO2 in manufacturing processes in terms of lower pressure and temperature conditions and the use of low-cost equipment. Here, we report for the first time the use of Freon R134a for gener

Mapping a mammalian adult adrenal gland hierarchy across species by microwell-seq.

Recently, single-cell RNA-seq technologies have been rapidly updated, leading to a revolution in biology. We previously developed Microwell-seq, a cost-effective and high-throughput single cell RNA sequencing(scRNA-seq) method with a very simple device. Most cDNA libraries are sequenced using an expensive Illumina platform. Here, we present the first report showing combined Microwell-seq and BGI MGISEQ2000, a less expensive sequencing platform, to profile the whole transcriptome of 11,883 individual mouse adult adrenal gland cells and identify 18 transcriptionally distinct clusters. Moreover,
