DVT has rarely been observed in the inferior vena cava (IVC). Pulmonary embolism (PE), which can be life-threatening, often occurred in patients with IVC thrombosis. Therefore, an IVC filter is frequently used in those patients for the prevention of PE. A case of successful endovascular treatment of an IVC thrombus in a patient with relative contraindications to implantation of an IVC filter is presented. A 1-day-old boy with a complete occlusive inferior vena cava and bilateral renal vein thrombus removed successfully using a hydrodynamic thrombectomy catheter is reported. Although blood flow to the inferior vena cava and bilateral renal veins was restored with no distal embolism or vascular injury, he died of bleeding complications due to fibrinolytic therapy after hydrodynamic thrombectomy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of hydrodynamic thrombectomy of a neonate.

Acute thrombosis of a vascular channel can be a serious and perhaps fatal complication. We describe a patient who developed complete thrombosis of the left pulmonary artery following catheter placement of a stent in this vessel shortly after open heart surgery. The thrombosis was successfully removed using the Possis AngioJet mechanical thrombectomy catheter.
