[Aspects of total parenteral nutrition].

Parenteral Nutrition has considerably increased the responsiveness to medical or surgical treatment of a patient. All the nourishing infused substances are in an elementary state, ready for a direct utilization by the cells. They offer a caloric and proteinous contribution which is necessary to the metabolic demands of an organism that grows in case of fewer, traumas, scalds, in post surgical time, or in hypermetabolic pathologies. The physician, nurse, and dietician decide the necessity to Total Parenteral Nutrition, valuing the patient's parameters such as: loss of weight, azotic budget, per

Arthroscopic repairs of triangular fibrocartilage complex tears.

Technical advancements in arthroscopic wrist procedures have improved our knowledge of normal and abnormal intraarticular wrist function. Triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) tears from trauma injuries are a common source of ulnar-sided wrist pain. Fortunately, the TFCC is a structure that can be evaluated and treated arthroscopically with results that are comparable to open surgical procedures. Successful arthroscopic repairs of TFCC tears depend on a coordinated team effort between perioperative nurses, orthopedic surgeons, nurse practitioners, and occupational hand therapists, as well a

Do task and item difficulty affect overestimation of one's hand hygiene compliance? A cross-sectional survey of physicians and nurses in surgical clinics of six hospitals in Germany.

BACKGROUND: One barrier to hand hygiene compliance is overestimation of one's own performance. Overconfidence research shows that overestimation tends to be higher for difficult tasks, which suggests that the magnitude of overestimation also depends on how it is assessed. Thus, we tested the hypothesis that overestimation was stronger for hand hygiene indications with low compliance (i.e., high difficulty), and the hypothesis that self-reported overall compliance based on a single item is higher than based on "5 Moments of Hand Hygiene" (WHO-5) items, since the single item implies an aggregati

Predictors of posttraumatic growth of intensive care unit nurses in Korea.

AIM: Nurses working in intensive care units are repeatedly exposed to trauma (e.g., verbal or physical abuse by confused patients, and unexpected death). However, after experiencing traumatic events, not all intensive care unit nurses develop psychopathological issues, including posttraumatic stress disorder. Therefore, this study aims to examine the level of posttraumatic growth and psychosocial factors such as posttraumatic stress symptoms, deliberate rumination, wisdom, and self-compassion to predict posttraumatic growth in Korean intensive care unit nurses. METHODS: A total of 156 intensi

Are retrievable vena cava filters placed in trauma patients really retrievable?

PURPOSE: Concerns have arisen regarding the use of retrievable inferior vena cava filters (rIVCFs) in trauma patients due to increasing reports of low retrieval rates. We hypothesized that complete follow-up with a dedicated trauma nurse practitioner would be associated with a higher rate of retrievability. This study was undertaken to determine the rate of retrievability of rIVCFs placed in a Canadian Lead Trauma Centre, and to compare the rate of retrievability in our trauma population to our non-trauma patients. METHODS: We performed a retrospective cohort study of all patients with rIVCF

Metacognition, memory disorganization and rumination in posttraumatic stress symptoms.

The present study aimed to assess the relative contribution of memory disorganization and beliefs about trauma memory in the prediction of posttraumatic stress symptoms. A sample of 95 student nurses and midwives narrated their memory of the most distressing placement related event they had experienced. Several questionnaires were administered, including the Beliefs about Memory Questionnaire (BAMQ), which was devised for the study. Pearson's correlations, hierarchical analyses and mediation analyses were performed on the data. The reliability and validity of the BAMQ gained preliminary suppor

Multicenter Online Nursing Education to Improve Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis Administration: A Descriptive Post-Education Survey.

BACKGROUND: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) causes preventable harm, and risk-appropriate prophylaxis administration is often suboptimal because of inconsistent practices and gaps in knowledge. The authors disseminated a validated web-based interactive nurse education module on VTE prevention and evaluated nurses' perspectives. METHOD: A descriptive cross-sectional electronic post-education survey of trauma nurses was conducted at nine Level I to II centers in the Consortium of Leaders in the study Of Traumatic Thromboembolism (CLOTT) Network. Data were summarized descriptively and with conventi

Bilateral Head Flattening in Hospitalized Premature Infants.

Asymmetrical headshape in infants has increased markedly since the 1992 recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatrics to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome by avoiding the prone sleeping position. Cranial molding correlated to restrictive intrauterine environment, birth trauma, torticollis, positioning, lack of full bone mineralization, neurological deficits, and any combination of the above. Nursing interventions to prevent cranial molding include alternative mattress surfaces and repositioning. The research strongly supports repositioning of infants to improve cranial vau

Personal trauma among healthcare providers: implications for screening practices.

Screening rates for trauma are low in health care settings. We examined the association between health care providers' (HCPs) experience of physical or sexual trauma and their screening of female patients for trauma. HCPs at an urban academic medical institution were surveyed from September through November 2016. The Brief Trauma (BTQ) and Sexual and Physical Abuse History Questionnaires (SPAHQ) assessed their own experiences of trauma. The Screening Practices Questionnaire (SPQ) assessed HCPs trauma screening. Multiple regression analyses were performed. Among 212 respondents aged 22-67 years

Competency-based approaches to sexualized substance use: Addressing curriculum gaps in nurse practitioner education.

The rise of chemsex and party-and-play (PnP) among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) presents complex challenges for nurse practitioner (NP) delivered care. Research consistently demonstrates that PnP participation contributes to increased sexually transmitted infection (STI) and HIV risk, stimulant and polysubstance dependence, trauma-associated symptoms, and mental health concerns. Despite this evidence, PnP remains largely absent within NP education in the United States. Studies across behavioral health, sexual health, addiction science, and LGBTQ+ health report eleva
