Efficacy of Potassium-Competitive Acid Blockers in Functional Dyspepsia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a prevalent gastrointestinal disorder characterized by upper abdominal discomfort, often refractory to standard acid suppression therapy. Potassium-competitive acid blockers (PCABs), such as vonoprazan and tegoprazan, provide rapid and sustained gastric acid inhibition and may represent a therapeutic alternative. However, their efficacy in FD remains unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effect of PCAB therapy on symptom outcomes in adults with FD. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane CENTRAL wa

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (r-TMS) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor-resistance in obsessive-compulsive disorder: A meta-analysis and clinical implications.

INTRODUCTION: Despite promising results from several randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and meta-analyses, the efficacy of r-TMS as a treatment for OCD remains controversial, at least in part owing to inconsistency in the trial methodologies and heterogeneity in the trial outcomes. This meta-analysis attempts to explain some of this heterogeneity by comparing the efficacy of r-TMS in patients with or without resistance to treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI), defined using standardized criteria. METHODS: We conducted a pre-registered (PROSPERO ID: 241381) systematic

Metacognitive therapy in post-traumatic stress disorder: A meta- analysis.

The metacognitive model of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) proposes that the natural emotional processing following a traumatic event may be impaired due to the negative effects (thoughts and emotions) related to the trauma and its memory. Metacognitive Therapy (MCT) is increasingly being used as a treatment for PTSD. This meta-analysis aimed to examine the effectiveness of MCT clinical outcomes in treating PTSD over the past two decades. In this meta-analysis, we analyzed experimental studies published between January 2000 and October 2022, in which MCT was administered to young and adu

Relationship between eating disorder duration and treatment outcome: Systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: This systematic review and meta-analysis examine the contribution of duration to treatment outcome for eating disorders. METHOD: Studies (n = 31) were identified that examined associations (r) between duration and 45 different outcomes. We were unable to extract r for seven studies (9 outcomes) and extracted r for 36 outcomes across 24 studies (2,349 participants). Indicators of treatment outcome were heterogeneous and thus a series of different meta-analyses, aimed at increasing homogeneity, were conducted. RESULTS: First, we examined the average effect size for one primary eatin

Outcomes for women with co-occurring disorders and trauma: program-level effects.

Program-level effects at 6 months are reported from meta-analysis of a nine-site quasi-experimental study of comprehensive, integrated, trauma-informed, and consumer-involved services for women who have mental health problems, substance use disorders, and who have experienced interpersonal violence. The average weighted effect size is significant for the treatment condition for improved post-traumatic symptoms (p < 0.02), drug use problem severity (p < 0.02), and nearly significant for mental health symptoms (p < 0.06). There is significant heterogeneity in effect sizes across sites. Program-l

Intermittent Parathyroid Hormone After Prolonged Alendronate Treatment Induces Substantial New Bone Formation and Increases Bone Tissue Heterogeneity in Ovariectomized Rats.

Postmenopausal osteoporosis is often treated with bisphosphonates (eg, alendronate, [ALN]), but oversuppression of bone turnover by long-term bisphosphonate treatment may decrease bone tissue heterogeneity. Thus, alternate treatment strategies after long-term bisphosphonates are of great clinical interest. The objective of the current study was to determine the effect of intermittent parathyroid hormone (PTH) following 12 weeks of ALN (a bisphosphonate) treatment in 6-month-old, ovariectomized (OVX) rats on bone microarchitecture, bone remodeling dynamics, and bone mechanical properties at mul

Pregnancy and Neonatal Outcomes With Levothyroxine Treatment in Women With Subclinical Hypothyroidism Based on New Diagnostic Criteria: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) during pregnancy has been associated with multiple adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. However, the potential benefits of levothyroxine (LT4) supplementation remain controversial. Variations across studies in diagnostic criteria for SCH may, in part, explain the divergent findings on the subject. This study aimed to assess the effect of LT4 treatment on pregnancy and neonatal outcomes among pregnant women who were diagnosed as SCH based on the most recent diagnostic criteria. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the li
