PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To summarize the current knowledge of the immune response generated against xenografts stemming from alpha1,3-galactosyltransferase knockout (GalT-KO) pigs. BACKGROUND: Infant cognitive development is influenced by maternal factors that range from obesity to early feeding and breast milk composition. Animal studies suggest a role for human milk oligosaccharide (HMO), 2'-fucosyllactose (2'FL), on learning and memory, yet no human studies have examined its impact on infant cognitive development relative to other HMOs and maternal factors.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Shiga toxin producing Escherichia coli (STEC) cause a wide spectrum of disease ranging from asymptomatic carriage through to haemorrhagic colitis and the haemolytic uraemic syndrome. There are no current therapeutic interventions available in clinical practice that can prevent the development of haemolytic uraemic syndrome.
