Prognostic Value of Type D Personality for In-stent Restenosis in Coronary Artery Disease Patients Treated With Drug-Eluting Stent.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the predictive value of Type D personality on in-stent restenosis (ISR) rates at 1 and 2 years post-percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with coronary artery disease. METHODS: Consecutive patients with coronary artery disease who underwent PCI for drug-eluting stents (n = 173) completed the Type D Scale-14 (DS14) at baseline. Follow-up coronary angiographic evaluation was routinely planned at 1 and 2 years after the procedure. RESULTS: Follow-up coronary angiography was performed in 159 and 112 patients at 1 and 2 years post-PCI, respectively. On multiv

The distressed (Type D) personality in both patients and partners enhances the risk of emotional distress in patients with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator.

BACKGROUND: A subgroup of patients with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) experiences emotional distress. This may be related to partner factors. We examined the impact of the personality of the partner (i.e., the distressed (Type D) personality) in combination with that of the patient on anxiety and depression levels in ICD patients. METHODS: Consecutively implanted ICD patients (N=281; 80.1% men; mean age=58.3±11.0) and their partners (N=281; 20.6% men; mean age=56.5±11.7) completed the Type D Scale at baseline; patients also completed the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale

Borderline personality symptomatology, experience of multiple types of trauma, and health care utilization among women in a primary care setting.

BACKGROUND: This project was designed to explore the relationship between recollected trauma history, borderline personality symptomatology, and health care utilization among women in a primary care setting. METHOD: Women (N = 116) consecutively recruited during routine gynecological appointments were given a set of questionnaires that explored 5 types of trauma (i.e., sexual, physical, and emotional abuse; physical neglect; witnessing violence) as well as borderline personality symptomatology. The preceding 12 months of participants' medical records were blindly reviewed to determine several

Human immunodeficiency virus type-1 mRNA splicing pattern in infected persons is determined by the proportion of newly infected cells.

Plasma viremia during HIV-1 infection is regulated by a dynamic balance between viral replication and removal of infected cells and cell-free virus. Administration of novel potent antiretroviral drugs provides an opportunity to study the consequences of perturbing this equilibrium by blocking de novo infections. In this study, we examined the expression of differentially spliced forms of HIV-1 mRNA, unspliced (US) and multiply spliced (MS), in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of patients treated with HIV protease inhibitors or combination therapy. In all nine patients studied, a sign

Similar frequency of autoantibodies against pneumocytes type II and Clara cells in patients with interstitial lung diseases and healthy persons.

Several experimental findings suggest an association between interstitial lung diseases and autoantibodies. Antibodies against lung tissue including pneumocytes type II in patients suffering from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) were reported in recent years. In this investigation the serum of 103 persons (10 with IPF, 23 with M. Boeck, 18 with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and 52 healthy controls) was examined for autoantibodies against pneumocytes type II and Clara cells by indirect immunofluorescence on human lung tissue. These antibodies against both cell types are an additional proof for c

Modelling the risk of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma in persons infected with human T-lymphotropic virus type I.

Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL), a malignancy of mature CD4-positive lymphocytes, has been etiologically linked to the human retrovirus HTLV-I. Although a long latent period is suggested from migrant studies, little prospective information on the risk of developing ATL among persons with HTLV-I infection is available. We present here a model for ATL risk based upon age- and sex-specific HTLV-I seroprevalence data from a cross-sectional survey of 13,000 Jamaicans and ATL incidence data from a 2 1/2-year case-control study. By examining the age-specific incidence of ATL relative to both adu

Offloading devices for neuropathic foot ulcers in adult persons with type 1 or type 2 diabetes: a rapid review with meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis of randomized controlled trials.

INTRODUCTION: Healing time for neuropathic planter foot ulcers (NPFUs) in persons with diabetes may be reduced through use of non-removable fiberglass total contact casting (F-TCC) compared with removable cast walkers (RCWs), although the evidence base is still growing. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: We conducted a rapid review and systematically searched for, and critically assessed, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared the efficacy of F-TCC versus RCW, focusing on the time to ulcer healing in adult persons (18+ years) with NPFUs and type 1 or type 2 diabetes. We meta-analysed the

Exploring the Needs of Health Professionals for a Type 2 Diabetes Remote Patient Monitoring Dashboard for Personalized Care: Focus Group Study.

BACKGROUND: Effective management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) requires monitoring clinical parameters like blood glucose and medication, alongside lifestyle factors such as diet and physical activity. Decision support tools, including dashboards and shared decision-making tools, help with medication adjustments, glucose monitoring, and lifestyle. However, systems rarely integrate home-monitored lifestyle data with personalized guidance and rarely facilitate collaborative goal setting for behavior change. As a result, health care professionals (HCPs) are limited in their ability to suppor

Effects of semaglutide and empagliflozin on markers of endothelial function in persons with type 2 diabetes: A post hoc analysis of a randomized clinical trial.

AIMS: The endothelium maintains vascular health by regulating blood flow and protecting against inflammatory damage. In type 2 diabetes (T2DM), however, hyperglycemia, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia place a significant burden on the endothelium, potentially leading to atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease (CVD). While semaglutide and empagliflozin have been shown to reduce CVD risk in T2DM, it remains unclear whether these benefits are mediated by improved endothelial function. This post-hoc analysis explores the effects of these agents on markers of endothelial function, i.e. the react
