Restoration of endogenous electric fields with a glucose-powered symbiotic bioabsorbable bandage for diabetic wound healing.

Endogenous electric fields (EFs) are essential for tissue regeneration but are diminished under hyperglycemia conditions, thereby impeding diabetic wound healing. Here, we report a biodegradable, glucose-powered electronic fabric bandage (GEB) that restores wound-edge electrical fields and enables closed-loop wound healing. To avoid compromising clinical applicability, we integrated all components into a soft, lightweight, and breathable bandage design to replace the traditional bulky electrical stimulator design. We also show the universal glucose-powered electricity generation and therapeuti

Structural insights into the design of novel anti-influenza therapies.

A limited arsenal of therapies is currently available to tackle the emergence of a future influenza pandemic or even to deal effectively with the continual outbreaks of seasonal influenza. However, recent findings hold great promise for the design of novel vaccines and therapeutics, including the possibility of more universal treatments. Structural biology has been a major contributor to those advances, in particular through the many studies on influenza hemagglutinin (HA), the major surface antigen. HA's primary function is to enable the virus to enter host cells, and structural work has reve

Scoping review protocol: a mobile health solution for the management of stress among health science students at rural universities in South Africa.

Stress is prevalent among health science students, particularly in rural settings where access to mental health resources is limited. Mobile health (mHealth) interventions offer a promising avenue for providing accessible support for stress management. This scoping review aims to identify existing mHealth interventions, evaluate their feasibility and acceptability, and explore the specific needs of students within these contexts. This scoping review will be conducted using the Arksey and O'Malley framework, a structured approach that consists of six stages: identifying the research question, s

Evaluating the effectiveness of the National Health Insurance Subsidy Programme within Kenya's universal health coverage initiative: a study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Low-income and middle-income countries, including Kenya, are pursuing universal health coverage (UHC) through the establishment of Social Health Insurance programmes. As Kenya rolls out the recently unveiled UHC strategy that includes a national indigent cover programme, the goal of this study is to evaluate the impact of health insurance subsidy on poor households' healthcare costs and utilisation. We will also assess the effectiveness and equity in the beneficiary identification approach employed. METHODOLOGY AND ANALYSIS: Using a quantitative design with quasi-experimental and

Influence of vaccine delivery route on immune imprinting in influenza vaccination.

Influenza vaccines are predominantly administered intramuscularly. Yet, their effectiveness remains variable across seasons, age groups, and exposure histories, due to immune imprinting or original antigenic sin. Immune imprinting arises when early-life exposures to influenza durably bias subsequent immune responses toward epitopes from the priming strains. This limits the recruitment of naïve B cells and the breadth of responses to drifted or shifted viruses. As next-generation universal vaccines increasingly focus on conserved antigens and novel platforms, understanding how the vaccination r

Estimated effect of vitamin A supplementation on anaemia and anthropometric failure of Indian children.

BACKGROUND: India has an unacceptably high burden of vitamin A deficiency (VAD) among children aged 6-59 months. To mitigate VAD and its adverse effects on child health, the Indian government runs a nationwide vitamin A supplementation (VAS) programme. However, the effect of VAS in reducing child morbidity and mortality remains inconclusive and has been debated globally. In this paper, we estimate the effect of VAS on two indicators of child nutrition-anaemia (categorized into any anaemia, and mild/moderate anaemia) and anthropometric failure (categorized into stunting, wasting, and underweigh

Bridging the Gap: using an interrupted time series design to evaluate systems reform addressing refugee maternal and child health inequalities.

BACKGROUND: The risk of poor maternal and perinatal outcomes in high-income countries such as Australia is greatest for those experiencing extreme social and economic disadvantage. Australian data show that women of refugee background have higher rates of stillbirth, fetal death in utero and perinatal mortality compared with Australian born women. Policy and health system responses to such inequities have been slow and poorly integrated. This protocol describes an innovative programme of quality improvement and reform in publically funded universal health services in Melbourne, Australia, that

Regional data, global lessons: what the Asia-Pacific osteoporosis audit teaches the world.

The APCO-IOF Asia Pacific Regional Audit on the epidemiology, costs and burden of osteoporosis 2025 is not just a regional report; it is a systems stress test for global osteoporosis preparedness and ageing. Across 22 countries, structural gaps recur: incomplete fracture surveillance, uneven diagnostic access, misaligned reimbursement, and limited secondary fracture prevention. These are not failures of knowledge but of system design. The lessons are universal: count fractures, define quality, fund post-fracture pathways, develop coherent guidelines, align financing with risk, and track outcom

Generation and Characterization of a Chimeric Tick-Borne Encephalitis Virus Attenuated Strain ChinTBEV.

Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), caused by TBE virus (TBEV), is one of the most serious human viral diseases endemic in Europe and East Asia. No effective treatment for TBEV infection exists and the primary preventive measure is vaccination. Although several inactivated vaccines have been licensed, the development of novel and more effective vaccines remains a high priority especially in disease-endemic countries. Here we describe a universal vaccine design approach to construct a live chimeric recombinant TBEV attenuated strain ChinTBEV based on the infectious full-length cDNA clone of Japanese

Evidence to challenge the universality of the Horiuti-Polanyi mechanism for hydrogenation in heterogeneous catalysis: origin and trend of the preference of a non-Horiuti-Polanyi mechanism.

The Horiuti-Polanyi mechanism has been considered to be universal for explaining the mechanisms of hydrogenation reactions in heterogeneous catalysis for several decades. In this work, we examine this mechanism for the hydrogenation of acrolein, the simplest α,β-unsaturated aldehyde, in gold-based systems as well as some other metals using extensive first-principles calculations. It is found that a non-Horiuti-Polanyi mechanism is favored in some cases. Furthermore, the physical origin and trend of this mechanism are revealed and discussed regarding the geometrical and electronic effects, whic

Liposomes as delivery systems for antibiotics.

Liposomes are currently in common use as universal drug carriers in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. The manipulation of different physicochemical properties of liposomes enables the design of particular carriers with the desired pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties. Most studies regarding liposomal antibiotics deal with aminoglycosides, quinolones, polypeptides, and betalactames. Some of the studies focused on improving pharmacokinetics and reducing toxicity, while others involved enhancing antibacterial activity. In an era of an avalanche of increasing bacterial resistan

Web-based chlamydia education for university students: A pilot project.

AIMS: Chlamydia disproportionately affects individuals aged 15-24 years. A lack of chlamydia knowledge in this high-risk group likely contributes to decreased testing, but interventions to increase chlamydia knowledge in this population are not well-described in the literature. The purpose of this pilot project was to increase chlamydia knowledge in a sample of university students using nurse-developed web-based education. DESIGN: A pre- and post-test design was used to evaluate participant knowledge of chlamydia before and after completing a nurse-developed web-based education intervention d

Dual Breaking the Geometric and Electronic Symmetry of Covalent Organic Framework for Enhanced H2O2 Photosynthesis.

The efficient conversion of solar energy into chemicals is fundamentally limited by the rapid, random recombination of photogenerated charges and strong exciton binding in semiconductors. We transcend incremental catalyst optimization by introducing a universal molecular design strategy "simultaneous geometric and electronic symmetry breaking" in covalent organic frameworks that intrinsically programs directional charge flow. Our strategy of replacing symmetric benzene units with asymmetric thiophene rings induces cooperative point-group distortion and asymmetric electron density redistributio

Host Dearomatization for Prolonging Room-Temperature Phosphorescence.

Host-guest doping has emerged as a powerful platform for constructing organic room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials, owing to its structural tunability and facile fabrication. However, molecular design has largely focused on guest molecules, while host screening lacks systematic theoretical guidance. Here, we propose a host dearomatization strategy that prolongs the afterglow of doped systems. By converting the benzene ring into a cyclohexane structure in the host, the RTP lifetimes of the doped systems are significantly prolonged, with the maximum enhancement reaching a 58.65-fold

Multiscale molecular engineering co-modulated dual-mode ratiometric probe for monitoring tumor-associated macrophage repolarization.

Precise modulation of structure-function relationship of molecules is at the core of driving breakthroughs in biosensing technology through chemical strategy. Here, we present a near-infrared (NIR) ratiometric fluorescence/photoacoustic dual-mode probe TPcy through a multiscale chemical modulation strategy. On the molecular scale, the synergistic design of the six-membered ring-centered cyanine skeleton and the N-nitrosylation response site achieves a significant spectral signal redshift driven by the nitric oxide (NO) response, and the introduction of the sulfonic acid side chain brings about
