OBJECTIVE: To examine whether transrectal voiding ultrasonography (TRVUS) can evaluate voiding movement in men with dysfunctional voiding.
METHODS: Ninety-nine consecutive men complaining of voiding difficulties without benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatic cancer, severe bladder neck contracture and urethral stricture received uroflowmetry and TRVUS. Those who had abnormal findings on both uroflowmetry and TRVUS underwent subsequent cystometry combined with electromyography (EMG) to confirm the presence of dysfunctional voiding.
RESULTS: Uroflowmetry indicated abnormal findings in 31 of t

BACKGROUND: Uroflowmetry (UF) is an established procedure in urology and is recommended before further investigations of neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD). Some authors even consider using UF instead of urodynamics (UD). Studies on the interrater reliability of UF regarding treatment recommendations are rare, and there are no relevant data on people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS). The aim of this study was to investigate the interrater reliability (IRR) of UF concerning diagnosis and therapy in PwMS prospectively.
METHODS: UF of 92 PwMS were assessed by 4 raters. The diagnost

Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in men are common, multifactorial, and frequently difficult to attribute to a single underlying mechanism. Although invasive urodynamic studies (UDS), particularly pressure-flow studies, have long been considered the reference standard for physiological characterization of bladder outlet obstruction (BOO), detrusor underactivity (DU), and mixed dysfunction, their routine use has come under increasing scrutiny in recent years. This narrative review evaluates the contemporary role of UDS in male LUTS as a diagnostic tool, treatment-decision aid, and prognostic

Objectives Sacral neuromodulator implantation (SNM) is an advanced line of treatment for patients with overactive bladder (OAB) or underactive bladder (UAB). The procedure has two steps; patients who respond to temporary SNM proceed to permanent implantation. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the overall effectiveness of SNM in our patient population, as well as to identify potential correlations between patient demographics, clinical characteristics, and procedural outcomes. Additionally, we examined factors that may influence patient-reported satisfaction following SNM implantation. Method

The objective of this study was to assess the short-term test-retest variability of pressure-flow studies (PFS) in men with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). By choosing a short interval between two consecutive PFS, but notably not performing two tests within a single session, both tests represent the same routine testing procedure. Eighty-nine patients with LUTS suggestive of bladder outlet obstruction or detrusor underactivity, who received PFS, were asked to undergo a second urodynamic evaluation within 4 weeks after the initial test. At both visits, specialized physicians performed the

PURPOSE: Neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) is common in patients with neurological lesions in the central nervous system (CNS). Medical treatment usually cannot adequately relieve NLUTD. This study reported the real-life treatment outcome of botulinum toxin A (BoNT-A) for overactive bladders (OAB) and voiding dysfunction in patients with CNS lesions.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the first-time treatment outcome of 74 patients who received detrusor 100 U BoNT-A for OAB and 45 patients who received a urethral sphincter 100 U BoNT-A injection for voiding dysfunction. The

Detrusor overactivity (DO) with impaired contractility (DOIC) is a mixed pattern of involuntary contraction and increased post-void residual urine volume (PVR) which occurs in stroke patients. Urodynamic study results obtained from patients with detrusor abnormalities and stroke were analyzed to identify the associations between various urodynamic parameters and DOIC. Between August 2003 and November 2010, 127 patients were selected from 178 patients undergoing urodynamic study due to urinary symptoms. Stroke patients were divided into three groups: the DO, DOIC and detrusor underactivity (DU)

PURPOSE: The present study aimed to reveal the neurological origin of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in routine urological examination.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 70 cases to identify cases in which the neurologist and/or urologist suspected the relation between neurological diseases and LUTS. The compromised neurological areas were categorized into brain and spinal cord based on the appearance time of LUTS and presence/absence of disease specificity. We classified the lesion site based on the imaging result and the neurologic finding. We compared LUTS appearance time: from LUT
